I have a line on a used EJ25 engine. It's complete. 70k miles out of a Forester. Single OHC. Had a miss. Thinks it was a bent valve. What's it worth cheap? He's saying a good one on Ebay goes for $1600.00 Thanks Subagurus :)

The last SOHC EJ25 I bought was a 150K+ mile motor pulled for low compression, but running. I paid $500. I wanted the crank, and my brother the heads.
I would say something that needs to be opened (for any reason) should go for between $400-$600. Subaru gaskets are not the most expensive, but they are certainly not the cheapest.

LOL. He's asking $600. Thanks PhyrraM

$200-$500 depending on area. I understand it to be a complete long block with wiring?
That Engine will need a big overhaul and rebuilding heads can get expensive quick. also that engine is due for all new timing belts and idlers/pulleys...
freshening it up can add up quick, especially if your the anal type that likes to use all oem gaskets and seals...
Didn't you just buy a wrx? what would you be using this engine for?

Yep I just bought a sweet WRX. But it has a 400HP motor. I was just looking for a stock motor to stick back into the Donor so I could sell it as a complete car, but then I saw a 2.5 and I started thinking. Hmmm. I love torque. Maybe swao the blocks while I got them both out.

You don't want to use a non tubro block with your heads......

StatGSR,
OK. Thanks. Different Internals?
compression ratio is different for one...

If it's a 2.5 SOHC the crank and block are OK for forced induction use. The rods and pistons should be upgraded.
STI or other '04+ turbo 2.5 parts will work.
Some will say the block is not up to it because it's fully open instead of semi-closed, but for a stockish setup it will be fine if prepared properly.
N/A DOHC 2.5s ('96-'99) are not advisable to use as base for a turbo motor. They were a factory stop-gap bored and stroked 2.2/2.0 motor and the durability shows. For the '00+ model years Subaru fixed alot of the weak areas for the Phase 2 motors.
Also keep in mind that the SOHC 2.5 heads never had a factory turbo on them, so the proper oil and water lines will need to be fabricated. Also a factory up-pipe (pipe that mounts the turbo) will not clear a SOHC head without mods.
