Brake Light Switch Issue

My brake lights only come on when I push the the brake pedal hard. I assume I need to try and twist it away a little from the brake pedal arm?

Yes,

If your brakes are like mine they start to work with little pedal movement so make it so just touching the pedal has them come on.

Yes its too far in. I would put a volt meter on it and test continuity while adjusting to find where the good point of the the switch is. If too far out it will stay on.

Also, its common that the switch that comes in the kit isn't that good (although it may be better recently). I had some issues with mine and changed it out for a Motorcraft part. (F6HT13480EA )
