Hi everyone!

Just joined the forum so thought I would introduce myself.

I’m based near York, in the UK and have started on the journey of building an 818s. Kit has been on order for a few months, hoping for it to arrive in August perhaps.

I’ve been working on stripping the donor for a while now. It’s a 2005 WRX Wagon. I was using it as a daily driver for a couple of months but the front right control arm broke, so stripping started earlier than planned. I’m a total novice with this stuff and there is an awful lot of rust under the car so progress has been slow, despite putting quite a lot of time into it. Learning a lot though!

Current problem is that I can’t separate the engine from the transaxle. They are out of the car, but firmly stuck together.

Looking forward to getting more info and help from the forum - I definitely need it!

Welcome to the forum! To separate the transmission from the motor, you need to remove a shaft from the side of the transmission on which the clutch fork rotates. The shaft is covered by a threaded plug that need to be removed. Lots of youtube videos out there covering it.

Once this clutch fork shaft is removed, a pry bar should separate the engine from transaxle.

Thanks @stipwrd. The shaft is already out so it’s not that holding it together. I’ve googled for tips and stuff and the most promising thing at the moment is trying to force a putty knife between the seam and eventually widen that with thicker tools until the pry bar can fit. I was doing that last weekend and got the putty knife in around the top, but didn’t manage to separate them. I’m hoping to get chance today to have another try. I’ve chipped a bit of the casing on the seam during early attempts at hammering a screwdriver in so I’m a bit worried I’m going to do more damage.
