Just another FYI for new builders. The t5 transmission cannot be removed from under the car. No matter how I tried, it cannot be done. Please plan ahead and make your tunnel easily removable

That is awful news. I just put my carpet in too and I've got a leak! Looks like I'll have to pull the motor?

Yes motor or trans tunnel. I was able to pull it back far enough to
Replace a flywheel but no way it's coming out. No way to replace
The shifter either. People might want to make a small section
Of the tunnel removable or put a nice aftermarket shifter in

Are you referring to the aluminum?

Mike is referring to the tunnel of the '33. The '33 has a fiberglass tunnel that most builders are bonding and riveting in. Since this isn't my first rodeo, I elected to bolt the tranny tunnel in. For sealing, I applied an adhesive "D" gasket to the mounting face of the tunnel.

It also warrents to mention that consideration must be made as to how the wiring is routed, in the event that the tunnel must get removed. Carpet and whatever underlay treatment (SecondSkin, Dynamat, FatMat, etc...)should be installed so that the tunnel will be removable.

Olli. Perfectly put. Make it easily removeable

Yeah, and I contemplated this as well, but never committed to it. Now it looks like I'll pay the price. Once the wiring is in and tight in that tunnel I don't know that I'd be able to get the tunnel high enough to pull the tranny anyway. I do have an aftermarket shifter but I don't see how that helps?

The aftermarket shifter doesnt help anything. Just saying, put it in now rather then later when you have to pull the whole tunnel

Thanks, Mike & Olli. I owe you for helping me in my planing.

I don't know if this is going to work but I hope so. I made a removable panel for the transmission tunnel out of aluminum so I can remove the shifter from the transmission and then hopefully pull the transmission. Or at least slide the engine/transmission out together. I also added a window on the driver's side so I could get at the hydraulic clutch slave to bleed it or remove/adjust and I installed another window on the passenger side to access the transmission fill plug.

Removing the shifter will not make it any easier to remove just the transmission from underneath. I will help you pull the engine and transmission

Right, it's the mounting tabs and the output shaft collar at the end of the tranny that will hit the frame on the way down/out.

Keep in mind that you need to move it back at least4 inches just to clear the bell housing. There just isn't enough room to move it back that far and tilt it down
