I do not have the engine yet, but will be installing a Ford 306, 300 hp with Holley Carb. The manual gives instructions for modifying the fuel pick up for "high horsepower, fuel injected engines." The instructions have you take the rubber cap off the return line and drill both outlets with larger openings. Since I will be running a carb set up vs fuel injection, do I need to remove the rubber cap on the return line and is it necessary to enlarge the outlets? I will install an in-line fuel pump.
Thanks for thoughts on this simple issue.

Every piece of fuel delivery system that FF sent is still in boxes, I opted for a Pro-M hanger with in-tank pump and 3/8 supply and return. Braided -6 PTFE all the way to the engine. The FF stuff just seemed inadequate and pieced together, especially for fuel injection. If you ever go to FI, most manufacturers require 3/8 min supply and return anyway. Just my $.02.

A 300 hp 302 isn't a high horsepower set up. There is no need to do that mod until you get up over 350-375. The Factory Five stuff is better than what came on a stock Foxbody mustang.

I am wondering about this myself, planning Blue Print carb’d 306 or 347. Does anybody make a fuel pickup for single line no return 3/8”? Right now thinking external pump with dead head regulator.

I have the BPE 347 Carb and I did not do the mod. So far go karting has had no problems and seems to run with no problems but I will monitor. My engine Dyno'd at 413HP.

Now would be a good time to do this, that way it's done. The size of the pick up will only matter if it's to small. Check out this link for this one and other places sell it as well.https://www.summitracing.com/parts/grn-gm-ti7998?seid=srese1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4v2EBhCtARIsACan3nz180UIXTSOnVhBNJsL hyA5jOx9ohk5bF-4eUwmmZZIpPR4cd3B7TwaAhRXEALw_wcB

What are you guys running for filters on carb setups? Is the F5 filter OK? Pre or post pump? I have read the filter should be after the pump since the pump pushes not pulls. A bit confused on pre filter post filter needs.
Thanks!

In theory, filter after the pump is preferred. But I am not sure how much it matters in real life. I had a filter just forward of the tank for 15 years in my MkII w/ mechanical pump. AT one point I had the tank out to do some welding. So I also disconnected the line on the inlet side of the pump, blew all the gas out of the line, and let it sit over night before the welding started. Put it all back together w/ 1/4 tank of gas but that line from front to rear completely empty. Fired it up and never even noticed a burble. The gas in the carb ran it for the 20 seconds it took to suck fuel from the tank and fill that line. BTW there is a very recent thread here or the other forum about converting to carb and what pump to run. In that thread one of the guys posted a link to a in-tank electric pump that had the proper pressure for a carb. I think it was for a Mustang that had a carb just before the model year when they all went to efi. That seems to me to be preferable to a higher pressure pump and a regulator. There are also electric in-line pumps for carbs so, depending what you have now, either will work.

Thanks Craig, nothing installed yet since this is a new build. I am a total noob so was looking for filter recommendation. I am leaning towards external electric pump and confused by what filter to get (microns) and where in the stream it goes. I see some using the F5 filter and then others doing pre and post pump filters. A bit confusing.

I used the Sniper EFI. I capped off the return and drilled a new hole and inserted the 3/8 setup that cam with that kit. I am also running a 306. I made a few tweaks and am closer to 350hp. I only used the larger lines because that's what the Holley setup required with their pump.

Your EFI system will tell you how fine a filter to use, typically 10 microns. The F-5 provided filter in my kit (from 2015) was 15 microns if I recall correctly. If you've got a question about your carb, I recommend either calling tech support or Blueprint. Blueprint tech support appears to be fabulous, plus they can probably help you out with a line size recommendation.

Thanks, reaching out to BP to see what filtration they recommend.

For a carbureted application use a G1509 Summit filter assembly as a primary filter, mount it back on the right frame rail by the upper shock mount. Then also get a Earls 230616ERL inline filter for the engine before the carb. Use the previously mentioned pick up reduced from -10 to -8 and run -8 line to the engine compartment. Use -8 flexible line before and after both filters.

Great info, thanks Tony!
FYI- BP recommended 100 micron pre pump and 10 post
