View Full Version : DS Shim for Gas地 Headers + Coyote?

Hi all, getting my Coyote + TKX tomorrow! Have the Gas地 headers and pipes. Georgie痴 instructions say that I might need to put a shim under the motor mount to get the long tube header to fit the drivers side. Instructions indicate this is usually a problem with earlier MKIVs (mine was delivered 11/20). Anyone have any experience with this? Is a shim needed for late models?

No matter what headers are used the Coyote mounts require shims which are included in the Coyote installation package.

Ummm... yeah I didn't get any shims in my coyote install package?? Did I get short changed Jeff?

I have the regular headers, not the new ball flange ones (coyote MK IV). I ended up needing a single 1" shim for the drivers side, I bought it from Breeze. Its not actually a "one inch" shim. it moves the pipe one inch in or out of the body. You need to test fit the pipes to see how much you need to adjust it (there are 3 sizes).

The shims in the completion package are for both motor mounts, not exhaust. It now occurred to me that Georgie may have a specific shim for exhaust that isn’t related to the motor mount spacers.

The motor mount shims are provided by FFR. I have coyote and gasn’ headers and side pipes. I had to wedge shim the DS and a 1/4” striaght out shim on PS. Both with gaskets from Breeze.

Think both FFR and Gasn’ now supplying the ball joint option now that should eliminate this but if older each build may require unique spacing based on body fit engine fit etc.

Ah yes. The motor mounts. All good there. He just mentions the possibility to need the shims on the exhaust in his notes and the instruction video.

Yeah agreed. Although I thought I read some people having issues with those too? Or just not liking them?

Murphy says that anything that can become loose will... I've heard of folks tack welding them in place.

I got advise when tweaking my side pipes to include changing to 5/16 bolts. This helped alot.
No issues with the steel wedges. I used gaskets where needed and copper hi temp Permatex, where no gasket was used.
