I am moving forward with the interior and as I am fitting the end pieces on the dash I realized the drivers side lands right on top of the vin/serial number. Is it just me or has anyone else had this issue and if so what's the fix as the highway patrol inspection needs to see this number? Thanks in advance.

I saw the same thing on the last 2 I built. I asked FFR to move the number but don't know if they did. I just left the end loose until after inspection.

Same as Mike. Left it loose until after the inspection. The LEO doing my inspection never looked. Michigan uses their own VIN tag so shouldn't matter for the future. But attached with a 10-32 screw with threads tapped into the frame just in case.

Thanks for the quick response. Looks like FFR needs to make a change.

Is the VIN not on the main 2" channel right in front of the drivers left knee? Thats where mine is. You do have to look under the dash, and thats where the trooper looked.

It is on the 2" channel but the dash has an end piece which has a tab that needs to be attached and it happens to land right over the number.

Technically, that is not a VIN because FFR is not an automobile manufacturer. Yes, it has 17-characters and some States will accept it, using it as the VIN, but, per FFR, that number is the sequence number that shows the model of the replica (Roadster, Coupe etc.) and the number of the chassis/kit.

The number on my Cert. of Origin was only 8-characters and was not stamped/engraved anywhere on the frame. I was able to convince the inspecting Officer to use it as the VIN as I had a VIN type plate engraved and attached to the frame before he inspected the car.

Just to visualize the issue, cropped this from one of my build pictures. Obviously while still under construction. The rectangular area on the 2x2 tube is the Factory Five engraved serial number. The aluminum tab is part of the dash assembly. It's pushed and clamped away from the serial number a bit in this shot. The instructions say to rivet this tab to the 2x2 tube. Which would cover all or part of the serial number. This is where I drilled and tapped a 10-32 screw so I could uncover the serial number if necessary during inspection. It wasn't. Michigan is one of the states that makes up its own VIN. So once the inspection was complete and title issued, the chassis serial number was no longer important.

I cut the aluminum so it did not cover the area with the numbers. In Alberta they assign a VIN so the FFR number does not matter but I still wanted it visible.
