I would like to use bulkhead fittings to run the lines out front and bottom of the footbox. After scouring the web for 3AN female-female fittings, I finally gave up and ordered male-male instead. They just arrived and are still not right. Does someone have a source and correct part numbers? Thanks, Tim

Should have mentioned that the bulkhead fittings do not fit into the brass couplers

We don't use them. Every connection is a potential leak. Drill a hole, install a grommet or bushing and run the lines through. Easy peasy.

Well, brake lines are not AN fittings

Don't feel too bad...AN (Army Navy) fittings were specifically designed so that GIs couldn't use the wrong hoses/hard lines. Specifically, the AN fittings use a 37* flare, whereas your standard automotive fittings use a 45* flare.

So, your brass parts are 45* standard fittings. But your AN fittings are 37*. You can't mix and match like that. You can make it work by getting rid of the 45* fittings and using AN tube nuts and sleeves. You will need to cut off the ends of the steel tubing, and reflare at 37*.

Agree with this. I just ran my lines this past weekend and did so that the line exited the driver side footbox at the joint between the forward panel and the driver floor panel. That way your "hole" can be two overlaping "U" shapes. This allows you to remove the panels in the future if need be.

If you're going to flare them to 37, don't go to a brake shop, they'll just look at you funny. If there is a small airport near you, go to a maintenance shop. The majority of flares in aircraft are 37degrees.

Or, just buy the correct fitting for brake lines

"Or, just buy the correct fitting for brake lines"

That is root of my frustration and is what pushed me to order the wrong fittings, out of desperation. I cannot seem to find a female-female 90 degree elbow inverted flare fitting to save my soul, I would like to use this when I come out the bottom of the footbox.

Get a bulkhead fitting in NPT and then the correct inverted flare fitting for each end and connect the brake line to that.

Just google: brake line bulkhead fittings

I think the problem here is that 'bulkhead' and 'brake line' will result in AN fittings

@yahrt - why not use a grommet and brake line union if you want separate and just do a 90-deg bend?

you could do -3AN fittings but would have to be custom fit ends, it's been done - but its way cheaper to just use brake lines with standard 3/16" fittings

If you pm me with email I will send pictures of how I made bulkhead fittings with 45 degree parts and no leaks and look good too! Don’t know how to post pics on this site.
