Idea for FFR......

Do what you did for the 818 for the GTM. Open up a design contest for an alternate body for the GTM. This could be great for current GTM owners while offering a choice to future owners and create a new revenue stream for FF. If the 818 will have color infused panels why not adapt this technology to the GTM. Many are spending 10k plus for paint on the GTM, a 5k-7k alternate style body would be a great addition. With the whole 818 kit costing $9,900, a 7k GTM body would be a money marker for everyone (penny saved is a penny earned).

It is proven from the 818 project the skills run deep. Plus it would be exciting to see what this community can come up with.

My input would be to keep the body the same over-all, but just apply the "no paint option technology". If it's in the range mentioned it would be hard to pass on considering the cost of quality products and materials alone for body work and paint.

I dunno. Overall, i think the car (in gen 2 form at least) looks pretty good. If anything, i'd change the back end and try to give it more of an "OEM" look.

To me, the rear of the car is one of the better things about the GTM.

What would you change to make it "more OEM"?

I have to agree with VD2021

I like the idea of a lower cost finished body, however one of the fun things about the GTM is the small body customizations, roof scoops, vents and other aero tweaks. What I don’t like about the finished body parts is they need to have draft angles that allow for a one piece mold which greatly influences the look of the car. Sure it can be done to have all individual body panels molded and all the cut lines you are used to seeing on a production car, but its clearly a couple of steps beyond where we are now.

How about this for a Alt Body.

Here is the thread on it.

You see thats the thing. The back doesnt look bad, not by any means. Its just missing something. Something that i cant put my finger on. And to me, it just looks a little too close to a kit car. Almost looking too simple in its design. Meh, i'm rambling. It just missing something for me. Thats all. ;) If i do build another one, i'll definately play with the look at the back just for kicks..

The Avenger body shown above would not fit a GTM chassis. It is a close seating cockpit like an Ultima or an SLC. The GTM has the large center frame for strength.
What I think would be the best thing for a goal of a new GTM body effort would be to fix the asymmetries of the body and the door/side window fit and watertight issues. They couldn't just switch to the new color/style gelcoat because there is just too much body work to do anyway that you probably wouldn't save any money on body / paint.

I agree with Mike, It would need to be a whole new body with panels instead of large body shells. I was at the 818 "open house". Looking at the GTM and the full size 818 mock up (which was not even that nice) really aged the GTM design. If I remember correctly the GTM inspiration came from a 1995 design. The GTM is the flagship of FFR, the 818 could steal sales from the GTM if it is recieved the way Dave hopes it will be. I still love the lines of the GTM but I don't want to see it go the way of the Spyder GT.

Read the thread, I talked about how it was designed before the GTM, and how it would have to be wider in the cockpit, panels etc.

GTM sales are a very small part of overall FFR sales. That will probably be even more so the case when the 818 is available. Roadsters and Hot Rods sell in massive numbers by componant car standards and even THEY might be dwarfed by 818 sales if things go the way Dave hopes. I wouldn't expect that significant resources go towards a GTM redesign or enhancement for quite a while. Just not sufficient ROI. . . .
