I am looking to purchase a Holley Sniper EFI set-up for my small block Ford.

I've got Trick Flow aluminum heads on my Ford small block and looking for a single-plane manifold. Any recommendations?

Holley does not sell single plane manifolds.

Thanks, George

George, you can run a dual plain manifold by running an open spacer between it and the Sniper unit. Holley recommends 1 inch and I didn't have room for that so I removed some of the centre divider in the manifold and used a 1/2 inch open spacer. Works fine.

Edelbrock Air Gap works great, has a cut down divider. LOT of back and forth about single vs dual plane...fair to say single plane is by no means a requirement but as Norm said either a spacer or cut down divider is a good idea.

Also running the dual plane air gap with Sniper on my 347 w/o a spacer, runs great!

Norm, Brad & Steve,

Thanks for the responses. My move toward the single plane manifold was because the Holley tech recommended it and then he told me they don't sell one. The double plane are made for carburetors to keep the jets fuel separated, whereas the fuel injectors in the Sniper EFI are firing right to left at the same time.

That being said, I can understand what you mean by putting an open riser in or by cutting away from the divider inside the top of the opening of the manifold.

I guess, though, I'd rather get one that is compatible to start with.

I was thinking about calling BluePrint Engines to see what they used with their Sniper setups.

Thanks again, George

Another RPM Air Gap. I did not modify mine.

I am running an air gap without modifications. I was going to try and cut the divider out but then a Holley tech told me that the divider in a dual plane affected the older units but not the newer ones. He said the real issue is for the IAC (idle air control) which is dead center on the back side if the throttle body. This lands right in the center rib which would block the airflow which made it impossible to idle properly. The new units have a channel routed out on the bottom of the sniper so that the airflow can not be blocked by the center rib. Mine is not on the road yet but have started it a few times and so far it idles great.

I think the Holley techs need to get together and standardize their explanation for the single plane manifold recommendation. I was told the Sniper map sensor port was situated so that it only had access to one side of the dual plane. This caused pulsing of that map reading, especially at idle, and messed up the ECM.
Whatever the actual reason, my dual plane works fine with a small spacer and a bit of the divider removed.

Copied off the BluePrint site for Ford 302 engine:

Sniper EFI
Dual plane, satin aluminum intake manifold

I'll give them a call today to find out which specific manifold they use.

Spoke with tech at BluePrint engines. Nice guy, it turns out he was one of the guys that visited Factory Five Racing a couple of months ago and was in the video that Dave Smith recently produced. I think I saw it on facebook.

Well, BluePrint uses: BluePrint Engines SBF 302 Intake Manifold Kit | Dual Plane | Aluminum | Natural, | Square Bore | Ford | Small Block 302

Let us know what BP says, if you look at the pic of that intake on their site it has a knocked down divider and looks like an air-gap knock-off. I do think the "best" choice is a single-plane but a Dual with a spacer or cut down divider (either by design or milled) works great as well.

For what it's worth I've got a Weiand Stealth on my 347 and also running the Sniper, built by Mike Forte and runs great.
