After several years of lurking I've finally reached a point that allowed me to order a Roadster kit. I'm getting the complete kit and I'm building a 351W stroker for it along with a TKX 5 speed.

What is everyone doing for a fuel tank on their cars, going a fuel cell route or with a Mustang tank?

I also have a question about building a buck. I haven't seen a build manual yet so I don't have any dimensions, can someone help me out in the mean time.

You can get an electronic download of the build manual from Factory Five's parts website for $10. Good study material in advance of your delivery, and I like having an electronic version because it's easy to search and have on my laptop. Also has plans for a body buck. Lots of threads for the body buck. Here's one: https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?24433-Frame-Dolly-and-Body-Buck-Plans-for-the-FFR-MkIV-Roadster.

For the fuel tank, unless you're tracking the car and it's a requirement, or you have a particular issue or concern with the Mustang tank, no reason for a fuel cell. (1) Expensive, (2) Requires bladder to be replaced periodically, (3) Takes valuable trunk space, (4) Requires frame mod and different filler setup. While they're certainly installed by some builders, most use the Mustang tank.

Welcome to the fun. I completely agree with edwardb. Download the electronic version of the manual. Read it thoroughly and get to know all the pictures. I found that the pictures in some of the build sections were not as helpful as they could be but, by looking at the other sections you could find pictures from different perspectives that were much better.

Good luck

Norm

Welcome Aboard & Welcome To The Family!

I read the manual 5-6 times, maybe more, before ordering my kit and it really made a difference completing my inventory and the entire build process.

In addition, any advice you get from Edwardb (Sir Paul), Jeff Kleiner, Mike Everson, Erik Treves, Wayne Presley, or 65 Cobra Dude (Henry R.) will be expert advice.

Welcome aboard. FYI I was given a free download when I paid my deposit.

FFR has an internet version published in their website.

Also go through Edwardb’s build links. His build threads are the gold standard around here.

Congrats! Keep us posted on your progress. I'm planning on going in the same engine direction as your are.

I too recommend that you read the manual. I read it at least 2 times before ordering and then at least 4 more times while waiting for delivery. It really has helped me during the build!

The body buck instructions are in the build manual.

I also am just using the supplied mustang tank.

Welcome to the forum! This has been one of the best projects I have done.

Yes, that instruction page is important! I didn't know that page was there when I was installing the brakes on the rear solid axle. I finally found it thanks to this forum!

Oh gosh, why would anyone read a manual.

On the fuel tank, I would go with the fox tank. You can get a new one cheap, the roadster was built for it-so you make the most out of the space, you can get new sending units and fuel pick ups of many styles and you won't waste time figuring it all out.
