View Full Version : Paint stipes inside the cockpit question

Being close to painting the car in a couple weeks and watching probably hundreds of Youtube videos of Cobras. Most cars have the body stripes into the cockpit behind the windshield. Looking at them form the perspective of a video camera it looks like they cast a large glare area onto the windshield. For those of you who have this, do the stripes make an annoying glare onto the windshield? I was thinking of stopping the stripes under the windshield if this is the case. Might look weird but I would rather see clearly. But if it's not an annoyance then I'll continue them through.

I suspect it depends on the color combination but I've never noticed it with my car. It's black with gray stripes.

My stripes (white) extend into the cockpit under the windshield. I have never had any issue with glare. So many cars are waving and giving thumbs up, you will be to busy smiling and waving back:)

Any shiny area will reflect on the glass, which is why modern cars have matte finishes on the dash coverings. Like others have said, it isn't something that you notice when driving. Cameras tend to be placed at much different perspectives than the driver, and that could be why the reflections are so obvious in the videos.

And that is correct, camera placement can show a different perspective from the driver, thats why I asked the guys who have been driveing for a while. Thanks:)

No issues in my experience. There's some glare no matter what since the surface is shiny. As others have mentioned. Plus would look weird (my opinion...) stopping the strips. Plus that assumes you know exactly where the windshield is going to be positioned.

Not at all. You can't see it past the gauges reflecting in the windshield.

just kidding. It's not really a thing.

A good pair of polarized sunglasses solve most of the problem.

Reflection from the gauges at night is much more of an issue, depending on your gauges. White on black Smith gauges aren't too bad, even though the bezels are thin. Silver autometer gauges are pretty bad, even though the bezels are generous.

I have a pair of night time driving glasses which help with gauge glare. They also help with glare from the rear view mirror. My rear view mirror is tinted 40% and it helps tremendously.

Under some sun/daylight conditions, I do notice it. Most of the time I don't. If I actually look for it, it's there.

And as noted above, the gauges at night are a bit of a problem. But then again, I rarely drive at night.

In my case the stripe is not the brightest part. I don’t notice the reflection while driving although you can definitely see it in the picture. As mentioned, gauges at night are far worse. I just turn their lights off. Gauges, we don’t need no stinking gauges.

Bear, my car will be esentially the same colors as yours, Ford Ruby Red with Silver Metallic stripes. It doesn't look bad in your garage but it may be a bit brighter in the sun. I really don't want the stripes to be short so I guess I'll live with it no matter what. By the way nice neck shots.

No problems with my car. It’s a dark grey to silver pearl shift with viper red stripes.

Just showing off. :)

Yes the sun lightens it a bit.

Its a Chrysler red. Like the FORD Ruby Red also. Had it been available would have use the similar red on my granddaughters Mazda CX-5.

The silver is a Jaguar color.
