View Full Version : LCS question: spouse attendance
This will be my first (gasp!) London Cobra Show. We've been to two Huntington Beach shows, without a car, but not LCS. (Yes, she did join me in HB, but her sister was there, too, so they went off on their own...)
All three of us (car, wife, me) registered for last year, but we all know what happened in 2020. My wife and I had a good discussion about attending the other day and she wondered what she would have to do other than read a book under a tree all day Saturday.
So here are the questions:
1) Has your spouse/significant other attended in the past?
2) Did they find it boring or enjoyable? Why?
3) Are there any spouse-specific activities that you know of?
Obviously, my choice is that she join me, but I registered anyway. I'll be interested in what others think! Thanks in advance!

We've attended LCS for a number of years and my wife always goes. She looks forward to it and really enjoys it. We always arrive on Thursday and do one of the Friday cruises. On Saturday, she loves the parade into London and waving at all the spectators along the way. Yes, she also sits in a chair and chills with one of her crossword puzzle books some of the time on Saturday. We also usually have several other club members and the wives have been known to sit together and visit. In years past, the town of London has a strawberry festival along with the LCS event. So there are things to see and shopping to do with that. Hopefully that will be able to happen this year. She also enjoys the Saturday banquet. Lots of good food throughout the event. Bottom line, no specific wife events. But if she's into cruising with you I'll bet she'd have a good time.

Hey Al,
As Paul said although there are no "spouse specific" activities lots of wives/significant others attend; I'd bet the number is near 50%. After many years my Nancy went for the first time in 2018 and now keeps the week blocked out on her busy calendar...she went again in '19, was planning on last year until the world went upside down and will be with me and my usual band of middle aged adolescents again this year. She enjoyed the camaraderie, the rides, the dinners and parking lot gatherings, the go-cart track and autocross, the variety of cars and meeting folks, just getting to see what it's all about. Here's what she wrote about her experience after attending the first time...
I guess it's my turn to comment on this past weekend. Jeff Kleiner has gone to this event for 17 years without me, not for lack of asking, and I finally get it. Seeing all of you together was such fun for me. I hear about all of you often and can now put faces with names. You all come from such diverse backgrounds but have the love of these cars and each other to bind you together. All of you made me feel like I belonged and for that reason you will see me again. So nice to have Thierry Mount to come to Indiana for a few days ahead of time and get to know him. He's a keeper! Thanks to Stephen Justice for letting me claim your Mango Tango car as mine, and Erik W Treves for the awesome Coupe ride. I could not stop following you around all weekend. You are a legend to all of my clients! John Takvorian, you made me feel like the parade princess on the ride into London, and didn't let anyone take themselves seriously all weekend. You crack me up! Frank Sprague Winship love the gathering spot but could we do fairy lights for the NAPA canopies next year?! We'll provide them. Ray Elie and Henry Renaud, two men with infectious smiles and positive energy that kept me entertained all weekend. Sten Johnson, thank you for keeping the man, the myth, the legend of Captain O Ring alive! Nice to finally meet the rest of the Dougherty's. You have a wonderful family. Garry Bopp, thanks for slipping me my own jar of your special peach moonshine when the guys weren't looking! Thanks to Dave Smith for offering to let me drive the Coupe back to the hotel but I really need a booster seat.

Last but not least so nice to finally meet you Karen Salvaggio. So glad you have been there all these years to keep these guys in line on the track! I know how much they admire and love you too! Thank you for representing our gender so well.
You all kept me in stitches all weekend. Last but not least my awesome husband who has never pushed me to go with him but was so happy to have me there to meet some of the most important people in his life. He considers all of you the brothers he never had. I just want to know whose idea it was for the burnout in my Subaru?!!!!!!

Bring your Nancy along and I bet by the end of the weekend she'll "Get it" like my Nancy now does and understand that it's not just about the cars, it's about the people! By the way, I noticed that my Nancy had her coffee with your car this morning ;)
See you in June!

Joint leisure time away from the hateful life is very cool. And another big plus when wives have their own hobbies, when they are not tied to the stove and the washing machine.
