I am working on my MK1 and recently got my a-arms installed
that I purchased from another forum member. The issue I have is how close the lower body of the shock is to the a-arm. For rolling it around the garage, it is not a worry. I cannot drive with them this close. My question for those with the MK1's becomes, Will the newer style factory five a-arms fit the gold shocks or will I have the same issue?

Anybody have a set of a-arms, upper and lower, they want to get rid of? I also need reaar adjustable uppers and better rear lowers.

go in there with a small grinder and make that hole a little bigger.

I considered opening it a bit, but hesitated thinking it could
weaken the mount. It does support the cars weight with the coil springs. Any engineering opinions out there?

Can you invert that make of shocks? Perhaps you'd get better clearance? I know some shocks can be flipped, others not.

Thanks for the input. However, I tried flipping the shock before posting.

I don't think you're going to weaken it too much removing only what is needed for clearance. But the angle and the perspective of the picture may be misleading. Only you can tell. If you have to remove too much you can always weld in extra metal forward and aft to make it even stronger than it is now.

You can invert the shocks (mount them upside down). That’s what my manual instructions indicated. Also, the new QA shocks mount inverted also.

And so what was the result of that? Did it give you the clearance needed?

You may be able to get a longer eye for the shaft end of the shock. Go here
https://www.proshocks.com/catalog.aspx
and click 'View Catalog'. As you look through it, at each different model shock, they have a couple of different height rod ends.

Are you using OEM Ford Mustang lower ‘A’ arms? I believe they do have to be opened up a bit.

I’ll check my build manual in a bit and send you a private message.
