Hey guys,
Need some opinions from the group. Just finished a roadster with a Blueprint 5.0 stock 235 HP. Tried to save a few bucks and bought a Junkyard T5 out of a 95 3.8L mustang (1352-238). Shifts/runs good under power however when I let off the gas and coast it tends to slip out of 2nd and 4th. tried royal purple syncromax fluid without much improvement. Thoughts before I pull for a rebuild?

Are you sure the shifter isn't bound up on the tunnel cover so that it isn't fully into gear? If so, then I've seen that problem fixed with a little clearance cutting of the tunnel cover.

Yes, it could be the shifter is binding, does it have a boot? From there it's worn syncro's or bent forks.

If you have the rubber “accordion” style boot unscrew it from the tunnel top and see if it still comes out of gear with it loose. If that cures the problem reposition it so that it isn’t introducing any load on the lever. You might want to start saving your pennies for a transmission—even with a mild 5.0/302 the V6 spec T5 probably won’t be long lived unless you’re REALLY easy on it.

Thanks guys. I will pull the boot tomorrow and see if there is any interference. Jeff yea I remember a rubber boot so that may well be the problem. Ill let the group know

While I have the attention of the group is there a benefit to a short throw shift if so what is recommended. Again just street driving nothing heavy
