Has anyone tried the colored powdercoated rivets (for accent or matching powdercoated panels) from Summit or McMaster-Carr?
I was thinking about using them in the engine bay area as an accent color.

Does the powder coating hold up?

I'm using black aluminum rivets from McMaster Carr to blend into the powder coated panels. I'm in body work stage, but I have 30 miles on it so far and they are holding up just fine and are not damaged by the rivet tool.

I carefully planned the placement locations of each and every rivet on my MKII, and so the bare metalwork looked very nice indeed. I would not want to have done it any other way, since I know how carefully I attended to that particular detail all the way through my build. Now if I had only built a Spec Racer instead, then all of those rivets would be visible. But no, my lovely street car has them all covered with carpeting, except for a few on the sides of the trunk. Unless colored rivets would be a source of private delight, then I suggest spending the money on other improvements or upgrades.

Does anyone have photos showing the contrast? I think it may look great in an engine bay.

Scott L,

I like the contrast with the rivets! The engine looks great too! Nice work!

I assume the black on the rivets have held up?
