I am posting this in this forum but the trans is in a Hot Rod. Not that it really matters
No matter how hard I try I cannot get the transmission to shift into 4 th gear. It will go in fine when the car is not moving. Also the transmission is very noisy when driving. LOTS of gear whine. Occasionally the trans locks up in between gears when driving too. I am using a hydraulic throw out bearing and the clutch, flywheel, pressure plate and transmission are brand new. Any ideas what might be going on?

Two guesses
1. No fluid.
2. Defective transmission.
Since it is new you may want to call about warranty.

Brand new 2.8 quarts of automatic trans fluid. Hate to think I will have to pull it back out

Have a few beers tonight and then contact whoever you bought it from tomorrow. I don't see any option other than pulling it. Sorry.

Working on it. I will post the answer as soon as I know. It MAY not be the trans fault at all. Stay tuned
