View Full Version : Coolant flow to the heater core

In some vehicles, coolant flow to the heater core is restricted. Often to protect the core itself. I have a coyote and the ffr supplied heater/ac unit in my hot rod. So I need to restrict the flow to the core? I will be using the vintage air h pipe with the ffr supplied heater valve after it (after discussing options with restomodair, he and I think this is my best route). Both of these will be in the car behind the dash (with a panel to protect occupants should a leak occur and guide any leak down to a drain, got a plan there lol).

So, do I need to restrict the flow to the core to prevent damage or let it go full 5/8 (10 an) flow? Thanks y’all.

no restrictor needed.

Good information, thanks.

With the OEM heater hoses on the Coyote being 3/4", reducing down to 5/8" for my Vintage Air heater core and bypass valve is already introduces a reduction. I would not want to disrupt the flow back to the DS head too much and risk a overheating problem.

Alan, that just needs 5/16” per Ford.

Thanks for the response from Ford, but I will feel better with the 5/8" plumbing.

I contacted Ford Performance regarding a trans oil cooler. They provided part number FR3Z-7A095-D for the OEM trans cooler from the Mustang. I was able to find the part for a bit over $50 plus $17 to ship. I should have the cooler next week. Some Ford parts houses were asking $40 to ship a $55 part, ridiculous. I bailed out of a purchase from Tasca Ford when I saw their shipping charges. Later I got a email from them asking if I forgot to complete my order. I let them know what I thought about their proposed shipping charges.
I like the configuration of the Mustang trans cooler with both inlet and outlet on the same end of the cooler. Now I have to find a place to mount it.
I know I am getting there, but my teeth hurt from all the yanking on them.
