I acquired a set of Mk IV aluminum spats. I think I want them on the roadster. Just to have them in the same location as the car, I dropped them off at the shop. After my usual walk around, I tried to locate them on the rear fenders, car is unpainted.
I can force the aluminum down over the curve of the fender and eliminate most the space between the metal and the fender. Some of the edges are not parallel and look like the edges might need some trimming.
I am looking for advise or instructions on installing these on the car. I googled, prior to posting and did see a set that used rivets to hold in place. I think I would prefer something like rtv silicone, but do not know for sure.
The spats are clean, but not really polished, which I can do, after fitted.
I installed a set on my car. I had to adjust the shape on the passenger side a bit by bending the spat to a slightly tighter curve on the top edge.
Polish them before you install them!
I used 3M molding tape to install mine. They've been on for over a year and haven't moved.

I edged mine with a thin black plastic and then used small button heads with lock washers. Solid and looked good.

Papa, where did you get your spats, and how much were they?

Thanks for the replies and information. I did not position mine as close to the edge as Papa's, but do see the need to protect as much fender as possible.
Great job Papa. Thanks for the pictures and inspiration.
Will the tape hold the aluminum down, if there is some resistance to lie flat?

Love the color, Kyle.

I got the spats from VeryCoolParts (http://verycoolparts.com/) (supporting vendor). I think they were a little over $200 at the time, not sure what current price is and they only offer them periodically. This is the tape I used:

It holds perfectly, and if you ever need to remove them it just takes a little sawing with some fishing line. I'd try to get the shape to lay flat on your car before attaching. I just worked the metal by hand over my leg to get it to conform.
