I am looking to do some upgrades on my MK3 Roadster starting with the turn signal.
I would like to do away with the toggle switch from ffr and am considering the Russ Thompson turn signal which seems to be a popular choice here.
Are there any other good options out there to consider? I have the Ron Francis wiring and the FFR steering wheel.
What is involved in this conversion?
Thanks very much for your help as usual.

I'll just leave this here. ;)

I'm in the process of removing the toggle and going to 2 momentary push buttons and the Signal Dynamics self canceling module. Allows you to select various length of blink time and self cancels.

You can get the module for less than their suggested price. Once I'm done I'll report back with how the install went.

I just upgraded my turn signal setup to the Russ Thompson equipment. You can see what it took in my build thread starting here: https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?24916-Papa-s-MKIV-Roadster-Build-9115-(Graduated)-Russ-Thompson-Turn-Signal-Upgrade&p=449508&viewfull=1#post449508

An alternative that also works quite well is the Signal Dynamics (SDC) self-cancelling module. That's what I had in my car before upgrading to the Russ Thompson setup. I did a whole thread on it here: https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?30959-Signal-Dynamics-Self-Canceling-Turn-Signal-Module-Question

Papa,

Did you keep the SD module or did you eliminate it from the circuit? With Russ' system, I'd think eliminate it but the self cancel after a set time would be a bonus [in my mind] if you were just changing lanes and not turning the wheel enough to allow Russ' system to come into play (have to turn the wheel enough to activate the self-cancelling).
Inquiring minds want to know.

Doc,

I eliminated it completely. It would be interesting to wire in a timer circuit of some sort, though.

Skidd, thanks very much for your link, very impressive but I think I am going to go with the Russ option. It's a better option for me at this stage.

Hey Papa, thanks very much, I think I am going to go with the Russ option like you.

An even simpler option is a toggle switch w/ a long handle and or an extension. I mounted mine to the left of the steering wheel and could easily operate by extending a couple of fingers.

I used a long handle + extension because that allowed me to slide the extension to get the perfect overall length.

Thanks Craig, but I was trying to get away from the toggle switch.

The Russ Thompson system is the most period correct and easiest to instal but, like a lot of things, I went off the reservation and made my own. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjRlKWlGeug

Works great and self cancels. Includes flash to pass function.

Thanks Craig, but I was trying to get away from the toggle switch.

I understand. I was just trying to say there is a simple way that works real well if you don't mind turning them off yourself. I first installed my long toggle so it moved left or right. Then I realized that I could turn it 90 deg and it would work more like the T/S stalk on a regular car. Since it was to the left of the wheel it was up for right and down for left.

Russ Thompson and one of these:

And if going LED, get a couple solid state relays for the blinkers and flashers.

Yea Craig, it is a great idea. If it was at the beginning of by build it would have been a good option and I would not have to be doing this now. Thanks again, it was worth hearing from you.
