Last night a Yellow MK3 with blueprint 347 and 4 lug wheels sold for 42K
edit I didnt see the listing photos I just saw the end of the sale where they showed the 4 lug rear wheels.
Good pickup on the MK 1 Jeff. I wonder if buyer has any recourse from Barrett for listing as a MK 3 ?

After seller pays his 10% to Barrett, his take home is about $37,800
I hope that was a good sell for him. Plus you take into account the cost to get it out there. I've been to BJ a couple of times now and the early days offer some great deals. Then things get crazy come Friday and Saturday.

Actually looks like the guy who bought it just posted on the Factory Five Builder Facebook group looking for the battery location.

We saw that and I said to my wife that I feel sorry for him. Why the color? No, it's got 4 lug wheels which means it has the least good suspension system that could be installed.

Dang! That's pretty harsh.

Photos show Mustang coil springs and drum brakes. Pics also show that it's a Mk1 (indicated by the steering shaft, straight trunk bar, no footbox tubing) although it was represented as a Mk3. Not trying to be harsh, just what it is.

I'm sure the new owner will enjoy the car. I wonder, however, how many buyers of these cars keep them for any amount of time compared with those that build their cars?

No, not harsh at all, simple statement.

Selling a Mk1 as a Mk3 doesn't sound legal. I wonder if he knows yet?

How can someone pay that for a car with issues? Thats a very basic build.

I think it's great!
Maybe we will start to see FFR's finally selling at decent price's. I've always thought they were being sold for far less then they are actually worth. Sadly, FFR owners are usually their own worst enemy, often asking too low a price when selling their cars. Because of that, some people consider the FFR's, as poorer quality replicas.
I hope the new owner has the time of his life in his FFR, and feels it's worth every penny.

Like most things, you have to do your home work, and then it is still always buyer beware, as is where is, whatever phrase you choose when buying something used. I am sure Barrett is covered.
i just had a local guy contact me about my FFR. He was looking at some kind of custom built replica that was for sale locally. i looked at the pictures and told him he should come over and see my car. He came over and after driving it about one mile, he couldn't believe how much nicer the FFR was. Now he is considering building one. It seems that we are finally getting some recognition with increasing prices, at least from what I see on BAT.

Yeah, but he probably got a couple "free" drinks.
Helps loosen the buyers up.
I've never considered buying a car at an auction before, but I can certainly see how it can be easy to be emotionally driven to buy a car you've always wanted to own as it is presented under the lights. We are a unique, and very small group of enthusiasts that have intimate knowledge of these cars. We shouldn't expect the guy that's never spent the hundreds of hours we have building them to understand them in the same way we do, or to necessarily be able to accurately assess the value and quality of the car. We can, however, welcome the new owner into the world of Factory Five and offer assistance without criticism, just as we would to a new builder.

Could not agree with your more. I watched the auction (just happened to have it on at that exact time) and saw it sell. Couldn't tell much from the auction video. Hood wasn't open, etc. Certainly more details in the actual listing. Was a little surprised with how much it sold for, given what I could tell at the time. But I don't have a problem with these selling for as much as the buyer can get. Even though BJ prices are sometimes pretty artificial. The buyer has now posted in the builders groups over on Facebook. He's clearly excited about his purchase. Too bad it's not a Mk3 as represented. Yes, looks like some work to do there and not the latest of everything. But said it's his third replica. Let's support him and not rain on his parade.
I think it's great these ffr cars bring top dollar. Minor flaws and all. It values our work building them more.

This is a perfect example of why I have chosen to build one myself. I had the opportunity to purchase a finished car already licensed, registered in my state but choose to purchase a used kit instead for the same price. The guy selling could not answer any questions about the car as he did not build it. I am paying for the experience of the build and having a great time. Most people it talk to think that I am crazy for not buying the completed car. I guess my point is that we the builders are a very small percentage of folks out there and find it easy to pick this apart. I think this guy got a great deal for a finished car and they may not notice that the doors are not aligned, only has drum brakes, ..... And will still get all of the attention going down the road and/or a car show. I hope they have a blast with it!

And let's not forget the peace of mind that comes from knowing the quality level of the car in terms of the parts and workmanship that you put into it.

Hopefully, he may realize the good folks in the build community are part of the value. He may build his own in the future.

Free drinks, why didn't you say so.
Actually not really free.
I'm not trying to criticize him. If he's happy then that's what's important

I've been to Barrett a couple of times as a bidder. If you go, I highly recommend going through the steps of getting a bidder pass as it gives you much more access to everything. Even if you don't plan to buy, get the bidder pass. It ends up being just a little more than paying the day passes. I can tell you that the "frenzy" to buy is big. I went looking for an early Camaro and was dead set on buying one. Passed on a few and then started bidding on a few. Luckily, common sense got the better of me as you realize these cars are going for way more than they're probably worth. You get the sense that some people showed up to buy a car, and if they haven't bought something by Wednesday, they start getting desperate to leave with something. Gotta keep your head. I could definitely see the look of "what did I just do" in some of those buyers eyes.

I was the buyer and having only owned Backdraft Racing cobras in the past, I was unaware this was misrepresented. Barrett Jackson did the right thing when I reach out to them and they took the vehicle back. It will be relisted in Vegas as a MK1. The seller [claimed] to be unaware as well, however the engine was not a blueprint 347 and the brakes were drums, not discs. It was a complete donor build.

Well, Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your bad experiences with Barrett Jackson. Do you have any plans on building a FFR cobra?

Yup! It was me! Live and learn. Barrett Jackson took the vehicle back earlier this week after I filed a grievance report.

Glad to hear they did the right thing.
Hey Marine! Happy to hear that BJ did the right thing. If you're thinking of building, the money you spent on the car at the auction will go a looong way toward building the car you really wanted. I was Army Air Assault, but I might even help out a poor Marine if he needs a little help now and then. :p

Hello FMR. These folks on the forum are just amazing. I would have never thought of tackling this project if it was not for the build threads and the amazing support from some of the nicest folks I have never met in person. This journey has been one of the most rewarding and fun projects I have ever done. I am so glad I am building mine instead of buying one already assembled. So far the journey has been more fun than owning any car I have had in the past ( well tracking my 997.2 911 was pretty darn fun LOL! )

Glad it worked out for you. FWIW in the mid $40K range if you are willing to build you can do all all new parts car with a FORD Coyote crate motor & a crate Tremec transmission.
