Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has tried to put a 351C into the new gen 3 type 65 coupe design?

Thanks,
Brent

After watching a friend stuff a 351W / T56 into a Gen 3 I wouldn't expect you to have an issue with a 351C. Shorter deck height makes manifold height less of an issue but you'll have to build headers or I would suspect so.
FWIW, I'm planning to build headers for my 351W in a Mk4.

Brent,
I’m in planning stages myself. I have been going back and forth looking at FFRs various offerings. I’m currently down to the roadster or coupe leaning more towards the coupe. I will be using a 351c that came out of my fathers racing pantera. For engine mounts, it will use the same as 302/351w. For headers, shell valley offers one you can buy also, vintage wheels has headers for 351c. If you buy the plain steel ones, you can return them if they don’t fit, but not the ceramic coated ones. If those don’t work, gas n pipes can send you their “Frankenstein” configurater and make you a custom set. The physical dimensions on the Cleveland are very similar to the 351w, but like Jim said, it is about 2” shorter. That will actually help with under hood clearance.

Thanks for the information, this is super helpful. I am working on rebuilding it now and then plan on ordering the coupe. I originally was going to go the roadster route, but then reflected on my experience of owning a motorcycle in Ohio. We don't get a lot of super nice days, a fair amount of rain, and pretty humid summers.

Hey,
Do you guys have any recommendations for EFI on the 351C?

Thanks,
Brent

Easiest way would be Holley sniper or Fitech carb replacement. Not many prefab options for Cleveland, you can try trick flow or speed 79 (aussi where Cleveland’s were much more popular). If you want 8 stack, Jim inglese will make one but might need to sell a kidney to pay for $$$$.

Anyone have any recommendations for heads, intake, cam and rotating assemblies? Looking to build a 351C for street driving. I have an untouched core/engine from a 1972 2V. It looks like Edelbrock has some options, as well as Trick Flow. I was looking at a 408 stroker kit from either Eagle or Scat. I did come across the Inglese EFI in my searches, and man are they pricey, but look nice.

Thanks,
Brent

I also read a similar article in hot rod magazine with a 500 hp Cleveland. Both used trick flow heads and intake. I haven’t read anything about the edelbrock heads on the Cleveland. Both give you parts list.

Good luck, I’ll be keeping an eye for your build,

Do you guys know what oil pan will work with the coupe on a 351C?

Thanks,

I thought I would share with you guys what I have figure out so far for the 351C engine build. It took lots of calls to all the different manufactures to get it all figure out. Summit racing was also super helpful!

Heads - Trick Flow Power Port 195
Valve Covers - Looking at the Blue Thunder Competition Series covers, not sure if anyone here has used them
Roller Rockers - Trick Flow, TFS-53400621
Cam - Lunati, they have two options, Voodoo Retro-Fit Hydraulic Roller Cam
Grooved Cam Bearings - TMeyer
Lifters - Street Performance Hydraulic Roller Lifters from Lunati
Manifold - Edlebrock 7564
EFI - Either MSD Atomic 2 or Holley Hyper Spark, have not decided yet
PRW billet steel flywheel
Rotating assembly: 1-94412BE
- Scat 9000 series crank 3.85” stroke
- Scat forged steel I-beam rods
- Autotec forged pistons 4.030”
- Total Seal file to fit rings
- King main and rod bearings
- Scat harmonic dampener
- Balanced ready to install
Oil Pan and Pickup - Kevco F608 and F608-1
Melling M-84AHV
Oil Pump Spring - Moroso 22850, High-Pressure Oil Pump Relief Spring
Rollmaster Timing Set
ARP hardware
TMeyer - Timing cover, distributor clamp, thermostat, pointer, and fuel block off.

Also going to use the Eastwood 2K aerospray high temp ceramic engine paint and primer for the block.

In the meantime, while we have been waiting for parts to come in and the engine block to get bored and I honed, my son and I built a run stand that we can test the engine on once complete. Pictures attached.

As a Ford fanatic I do know that the Cleveland motor uses square type heads as the Windsor uses slanted heads on the exhaust side. Let me know if you have any clearance issues as I am planning to run a 351w with Yates heads which are an upgrade of the Cleveland style head. And if a full Cleveland fits then I’m golden. Lol

Sounds like your doing a full rebuild… sounds fun! A guy near me in St. Petersburg put a 351c in a roadster and sent me pictures of his build. His name is Albert but I don’t know his forum tag. He ended up having the headers and oil pan fabricated. The only fitment issue was it’s very tight on driver side by foot box. Be a challenge to get that spark plug in or out. In looking at oil pans ffr recommended a rear sump on roadster and 8” deep. Melodon is 8 1/4” on rear sump so should work. Canton and moroso were at 9” deep.
The engine test stand looks awesome!!! I’ll definitely be following along. Try to post video of engine test when you do it.

I looked up the oil pan you listed, that looks spot on. I hadn’t seen that company in searching google for 351c oil pans. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, I could not either and I had been searching for months. I happened to call them to ask about a different one and they said they make the 608 specifically for the FFR kits.
