I haven’t even taken delivery of my 818S kit yet and I realize I’m getting ahead of myself, but I’m having a tough time deciding on what color to paint the car. I began with red, but dark blue is gaining traction. Now I think maybe a dark green might be cool. Should I do a pearl, metallic, flat?
Would anyone be willing to share some pics of their cars’ paint and how you like it? It may help with my decision some
I do plan on getting some small amounts of paint colors and run some tests on the donor’s panels as well
Thanks in advance!

JBS,

Pick a color that you like and go with it; however, if you think you will ever sell the car then I strongly recommend going with your original choice of RED.

The reason I make that suggestion is that I sold a lot of cars at Whole-Sale Auto Auctions from 1995-2005 and cars wearing the color RED, especially Blood Red typically brought $500.00-$700.00 more than other colored cars of the same model...Back in the day I sold around 150-175 repossessed cars each month and found that Red Coupes or Red Rag-Tops, no matter what the make or model, sold for more money than the same car in a different color so they earned the Nic-Name of Re-Sale Red.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of Green, especially on the MK-4 Roadster; however, being a less than loved banker from the Dark Side that I am I went down a different path so the Redbone Roadster was born.

I too am in the same predicament. I go back and forth but for now I'm thinking a subdued green color with subdued stripes. Definitely not a blue or red guy (there's a million of 'em out there) but not too crazy of a green.

so my .02 after doing black is choose a color that is "friendly" when it comes to fiberglass cars. Black isn't and it took a bunch of extra time to get right. This would also apply to metallic or anything with flake. Those will build up or pool in imperfections and really highlight them. It's def time consuming getting the body perfectly straight and flat. So just some things to think about.

I had the same problem- I like a whole bunch of colors, but none of them all the time. That's how I ended up with black, and I can't say I'm disappointed.

The 818's are a unique car, I like the ones that are jade green or metallic orange. Wrapped Cobra's are kind of silly, but a wrapped 818 or Plasti-dipped would be pretty cool.

GO WILD - think of a future buyer, will it be a younger person or an old fart?

Thank you for the words of encouragement and man, your mk4 is really awesome! You’re right, the red really pops. I’ve had more red cars in the past than other colors and thought maybe something different would be good. But now red is back in front

Man that does look awesome, what a shine! I noticed you used the same hood latches that I have been looking at to use instead of the pin type. During one of my trips to the FFR showroom I asked if I could see under the hood of the818C. So Dave L. was kind enough to unlatch and lift it off. However getting latched back down was a little awkward. So I found your style online as a possible solution. How do they work for you?

I guess since I’m already an old fart, it could be either

That is a very good point. Being in the boating business, I can say that dark hulls can be a nightmare to repair. They show every little imperfection

The AeroCatch latches work great for me. No way I was going to use the hood pins for this car.
