I would like to add an engine start button in addition to the standard key ignition. I searched google and the forums for both push button start and S2000. Found lots of posts, but it is still not clear to me how to proceed. A bit confusing to me.

I purchased a panel mount engine start button, rated for 50 amps. I prefer not to add another relay unless I have to.

Can I just wire this button across the battery and start terminals on the key switch? Doesn’t that just mimic turning the key? Or is there a better way? I want to turn the key to on, then hit the button. Turn the key to turn off as well.

Just looking for the simplest solution.

Appreciate the assistance.

With that switch rating, you don't need a relay as often done with a similar setup. Personally, I'd wire the pushbutton between the ignition post and start post though. That way, it's only active when the key is on. Wiring between the battery and start terminals would mean the pushbutton is active all the time. Key off or on. Not sure I'd want that. The one downside to this arrangement is your ACC circuits will be active when in start mode. Probably not an issue. But it's standard for ignition switches to turn off the ACC power when in the start position. That way any ACC circuits are shut off allowing the max battery current for the starter. In the RF harness, gauges, radio, wiper, and heater are ACC circuits.

I agree. That would be safer, especially with my grandson crawling around the car. I’ll go that way. Thanks as always.

My friend has this this arrangement on his car. The first owner/ builder goes by 427blur on FFcars. The original owner used a removable battery cut off switch essentially as the key so when removed no one can start the car. Push button start is so common place on modern cars that I opted for the key just to be different on my Coupe build.
