This looks like a fairly inexpensive way to replace the wastegates. It says they can be wired to auto close. I fiquired to ty into the bilge blower and then they would open, shut off blower and they would close.

That is a great find! I would still go through the effort to instal the cable actuators just for the original look, but I know a lot of builders here are going to be very happy with this.

Does this return when power is off, or do you need to power close and power open? Not clear from the listing but it doesnt look like spring close to me so would need to use a relay to get it to work properly. Not the end of the world but not as convenient as simply wiring it up in parallel with the fan

How I read it was they would return to either n/o or n/c depending on how it is wired.

Are you saying you’ve used them and the quality is low, or what?

China and India seems to make up anything that comes in a smaller size box

Interesting to this "switched" but it only has "OPEN" or "CLOSED" I like being able to adjust the damper to increase/reduce air flow.

Depending on where you live, the only open or closed function could be an issue. I frequently moderate the airflow with the waste gate set up and don't use the blowers much except in stop and go traffic. Perhaps two switches would be advised. One for the vent and one for the blower. Would be easy enough to wire with a diode or rig the switches so that the vent automatically opened when the blower was selected. Or get a on, both on, off switch like shown here https://www.mouser.com/Electromechanical/Switches/Toggle-Switches/_/N-5g2j?P=1yztzfq.
Nice find and a neat solution.

Indeed; a nice find that's a bit less expensive than the metal dampers I've seen advertised (http://dickinsonmarine.com/product/stainless-steel-manual-flue-damper/ or https://www.fisheriessupply.com/dickinson-marine-manual-flue-damper-3in-dia-stainless-steel/16-011) and possibly easier to install in-line with the vent hose to boot.

Personally, I'd remove the electric motor & use a pull cable. That would solve the "on/off" issue with air flow, & remove a potential point of failure at the electric motor.

I suppose if you wanted to get fancy you could replace the motor with a stepper motor and use a a dial on the dash for infinite positions.

Great ideas for replacing motor with cable. Or wireing two seperate switches for blower and valve.
