Is there "exact" measurements or locations on where the driver's side view mirror and the rear view mirror that mounts to the body are supposed to be?

Thanks...

I strongly recommend you do not mount them to the body. The ones usually seen on the front fender give you a wonderful view of the.......rear fender. I like them mounted about 1/2 to 2/3 up the windshield post. These peep mirrors clip to the edge of the post.

I bought motorcycle mirrors (most have either a stud or a threaded hole) and made a triangular mount from aluminum.

Yep, don't bother mounting on the body.

I didn't like the mirrors supplied with the kit either so I went on an extended search and came up with these from Sierra Madre Collection.
They work well and are for a 356 Speedster; however, they may look out of place if you are going with an aggressive competition look.
I don't know if you'd like them or not because they are a rather elegant-looking setup which I personally like.

Just know if you purchase these mirrors to make sure you install them, especially the driver's side, before the body is back on your car.
The reach was a bit of a pain in the pinkies since the driver's foot-box is pretty close to the body on that side.
Though they weren't that hard to install, it did take up extra time which was a concern.

Good Luck With Your Quest!

Alternatively, if you want the classic look find a side mirror with a convex lens. Like any of these solutions the quality of the image is directly proportional to the amount spent.....

I never had a vision issue with convex bullet mirrors on the front fender of any of my Cobras.

If you don't mind high quality and a bit of expense, the side mirrors from Breeze are are really nice and well built. They mount on the wind wing mount.

The factory mirror does give you a slendid view of the rear fender like Craig said. Total waste. I have been looking everywhere and bought a couple of examples from speedway and others and they would allllmost fit the windshield frame side bar, but not quite. I probably could have bent them to fit but I don't think it would have stayed on. I really like the ones Go Dad is using but coudln't find them. I broke down and bought the ones from Breeze @ $250 ouch!! I hope they are as good as they look. Have'nt recieved them yet. Has anyone seen a convex rear view that will work in our cars?

Side view mounted to the body is useless for seeing anything so up on the windshield post is the way to go. Dash mounted works....ok... but mounted to the top of the frame works better. I found when I drive my car I don't know exactly what's behind or beside me, I just need to know "something" is there.

Having three vertabry fused in my neck has reduced my ability to turn as much as I could, so good mirrors for me are a must. Conved for me are the best because of that. I would like to find a covexed rear view.

Like others, I found the body mounts lacking, especially after I installed a soft top. These are pricey, but beautifully made and work great. Pulling the body mounts is on my to do list.

Here’s a view of the passenger side.

I wanted to have a more classic look with the side mirror mounted on the body. After playing around a bit, i actually have a pretty good view beyond the fender. The mirror is a bit eccentric so you can rotate it to gain a better view in different directions. I also flipped the base pedestal to get a better view. Overall I'm pretty happy with the view I have with no fender in the shot.143964143965

Me too.
Saying you just get fender in your view is not correct. Place it carefully and it can be a good side view mirror. No doubt that the windshield is a better place, but my fender mounted mirror works fine.

I'm planning on driving a bit with the stock mirror and might replace w/ convex one if I want an expanded view. I also ordered a top windshield mount from darkwater customs. Chris (owner) said he's a bit behind from the power outages in TX, but should be here soon (waiting a month so far).

In addition to the Breeze side mirrors, I use a cheap amazon suction cup rear view on my car. I didn't think it would stay on as I have a lexan windshield, but it has stayed in place for months. The nice thing, if you have a top, is that you can move the mirror lower as needed. I have to admit it is a bit ugly though, but much larger and very effective. I think some hot rod shops make a billit suction cup mirror that I will probably get to replace this one.

I used raydot style and extended the passanger side so it's functional with the softtop144014

Until you start driving and rack up a few miles.

Has anyone found a good replacement for the stock rear view mirror? I like the location on the dash, and want to retain that for the old school look, but want somthing that has better optical quality than a mirror from a cracker jack box. Ive been looking in all the Cobra and auto parts sites but cant find anything that isnt: 1) the same crap as what came with the car, 2) very modern, or 3) not dash mounted.

I got my side view mirrors from Breeze yesterday and they install in about 30 seconds a piece and what a difference. Just being closer then the fender mount and being convexed the field of view is great. Not as sporty looking as the fender mounts but very nicely made and for me they work great. Money well spent. Now i need to find a better rear view. Hopefully convexed as well and matbe an inch or so wider.

The Breeze mirrors do look really nice. A few guys here in LV have them on their roadsters. I just couldn't justify the price so I went with the Speedway mirrors. I'm actually quite happy with them. The work really well mounted to the uprights of the windshield. I found a 3.5" convex stick on mirror on Amazon that I put on the passenger side. It does the job and doesn't look bad.

I also used the Dark Horse bracket for mounting the FFR rear view mirror on top of the windshield. The mirror bounces around a little as the windshield flutters but it works pretty good in that spot. I think that having it mounted on the body on top of the dash would be more stable but provide much less of a view.
