I had a splash panel fall off my car recently, taking the attached starter solenoid with it and yanking out the wiring.

I thought I understood how to wire it, but it's not working as planned (it's a Mark 1 roadster)

I was using the dual-solenoid arrangement, but have one of the newer starters with the built-in solenoid. The starter has a dedicated line from the battery.

Here's my question- What is the correct voltage signal to give to the starter through the two small wires.

I've tried:

1 wire to hot and 1 wire to the non-hot side of the 1st solenoid. This causes the starter to run when the kill switch is engaged.

Here's what I think I had before- what am I missing (connected like this the starter runs when the cut-off switch is closed)

Thanks!

Why not just eliminate the first solenoid since the starte positive is going right to the stater. Just connect the ign wire to the small post on the starter. If ther are other power wires on the first solenoid, they go on the positive side of the starter

I tried wiring the ignition directly to the starter, but it either still ran when the cut off was closed or it did not engage at all. (I'll check again at home)

Once I got the car home, a short look at the starter and I was able to fix it. Much easier than trying to fix it in the parking lot where it died!
