Good afternoon all,
Any Coupe or Cobra owners in Illinois have any issues with this? This is a copy/paste from the web concerning exhaust laws Illinois. I am going to try and bold the area which I think is sort of "grey" as well. Is it an amplification using most of the popular supplied exhaust systems for these vehicles? In my mind I would think it's not an amplification it's standard noise level the engine you chose makes. I have been looking at some of the Blue Print engine trans combos for a Coupe. My plan would be to use it for street and maybe the occaional track day use. This just crossed my mind and wonder if this has been addressed already? Is there a concern in Illinois for exhaust laws.

Thanks for any input on the matter

It's fine. Harleys are everywhere.

Thanks nuhale,
I got PM from ILPB as well on the matter. This had only just occurred to me and think I was being overly cautious. I know there are many loud bikes and cars on the road. I was picturing some crafty individual using one exhaust system over another just to pass inspections for licensing the car. Thanks for quick response.

Like I said in my PM, I've driven buy several cops in the Roadster in No. IL and Wisconsin and they look, smile, and wave. i think if you are being an A@@ or you get a "gotcha cop" then it's a way to tack on an extra fine.

I think we are good.

The key words in my mind are "adequate" , "cutout", "bypass" and "modify". I believe that if you use the stock side pipes, or one from a forum vendor, you will be fine. I would have to believe that a muffler/exhaust system that was designed/supplied by the manufacturer meets the state guidelines. Nobody has given me any grief about my mufflers. While I avoid being obnoxiously loud, I don't go out of my way to be quiet.

More of a concern is getting the 65' designation. It's at the top of many minds when dealing with this wonderful state. Without it you will need to pass emissions which will require cats. Most of the folks I know in Illinois got the 65' cobra replica or factory five classification so not too much panic to be had.

Again.. as far as noise I have passed some fuzz without concern with my gasn' pipes. More of a thumbs up most of the time. Can't speak for a few of my neighbors tho... got some talkin' to early on as I just couldn't resist the Will Farrell in the driveway move. :)

As has been said in a his thread already it’s more about how you are driving as opposed to how loud the car is. If you are going through a residential neighborhood doing burnouts you will get noticed and reported. If you are just driving and enjoying yourself they will leave you alone. They leave the Harleys alone so there really is no reason for them to take any interest in a cool car other than smiling and tipping their hat.
