Hey guys, can someone enlighten me on how an MK4 body is supposed to attach to the frame? I am working on aligning everything correctly from the front to the back as it wasn't done properly from the previous builder. I'm pretty much complete on what I had to do and am now working on the finishing touches which is the reason for this thread. The gentleman before me had the underside of the body screwed into the frame in 6 locations, 3 on each side. Is this common procedure or was it something that he decided on his own? I can't seem to find any literature on this and was hoping for some input before i put these back in or leave them out.

Thanks!

Yep - a couple of screws on each side is all you need. Some get a bit more "hi-tech" and will notch or slot the body at the screw locations to allow for some in/out adjustability. You can also install nutserts and use stainless machine screws instead of the self-tappers if you choose.

OK, I'll put them back in then... what is a nutsert? are they those rubber nut things that expand when tightened? I'm just thinking of tapping the frame with a 10/32 tap and using some stainless hardware that I had kicking around. It doesn't seem like it will be stressed very much so I think that would work?

For what it is worth, I've got three (3) quarter-inch (.25") stainless alan screws with nutserts on each side.
I used wide shoulder stainless washers to distribute the load which was just done as overkill.
Blue Locktite was placed on the threads to keep them from wanting to back or jiggle out.
As Papa Dave said, "A couple of screws on each side is all you need."

You can tap the frame, but that will only give you a couple of threads for your hardware to grip on. A nutsert will give you 4-5 times as many threads.

Nutserts are threaded inserts that are similar to rubber “wellnuts” that a lot of motorcycle mfg. use. The inserts are installed by using a special puller to expand the nutsert in a drilled hole. They’re readily available from amazon at a fairly cheap price.
