My Utah friends, I'm getting close to the point where I need to get the initial inspection to get my VIN. I'm hearing a lot of differing opinions, and I'm not getting a clear answer from the state on what they are going to be looking for. So, what is a must have on a Mark IV? Here is a list of items I don't have a clear answer on.

Windshield wipers
Bumpers (not quick jacks)
Reverse lights
Side view mirrors
Rearview mirror
License plate lighting

Also, did you register as a Type 1 or Type 2? Id like to register as type 2 so it can be titled as a 1965, but it looks like it requires a VIN first.

Thanks in advance, excited to get this thing licensed!

Another attempt to find some Utah folks that have been through registration.

I haven't been through registration yet, and I'm building a hot rod, but this might be helpful. R174-160-21 (https://rules.utah.gov/publicat/code/r714/r714-160.htm#/T21) lists the minimum safety equipment required.

I'm planning to register the hot rod as a type 2, I think type 1 is for kits built on a frame that has a title.

EDIT: I believe you can use the serial number listed on the MSO as your VIN for titling (F5R***)

Hi all, I wonder if I can seek some related advice. I have a MkII Roadster built by my father in 2004, and titled in New Hampshire as a 2004 model year “replica”. I am now the owner and reside in SLC.

This morning when I attempted to title and register the car, they would only allow me to do so as a 2004 model year, with no replica exemption from emission inspections allowed. They further told me that it was impossible to title the car in Utah as a 1965 since the NH one states 2004. I have not yet called the NH DMV, but am hoping one of you can explain to me how the two people I spoke with at my appointment this morning were out of line. Thoughts?

I should add, it’s a carbureted 302. I assume no chance of passing 2004 emission requirements, but it just dawned on me that I don’t actually know what that entails…

Were you able to register it as a 1965? I'm buying a half built MK3 and not sure I will be getting many of the receipts. He has the original invoice from FFR and the Certificate of Origin, but the engine, transmission etc. I am unsure on.

I have not yet figured it out, though did come across this information in the end (https://dmv.utah.gov/vehicles/rebuilt/kit-vehicles) which is absent any mention of out of state transfer, but gives me a figurative tree to bark up (I noticed the Type 1 vaguely mentions “used”).

I had my folks reregister it in NH for this year and I plan to fight it out with our DMV over the coming winter.
