View Full Version : Upper and lower control arms bare metal
I received raw metal upper and lower front suspension. I haven’t found anyone that will powder coat or chrome them because of the ball joint. Is there a way to achieve this or maybe an aftermarket company that sells them chromed?

There have been a few threads on this, e.g. https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?8225-Powder-coating-ball-joints
But use this google search (https://www.google.com/search?q=factoryfiveforum.com+powdercoat+ball+join ts) for more.
Thank you so much. This is perfect info.

143401143402143403 i followed others on this part of the project. I used carb cleaner to get the grease out of the ball joint. Bought a used stove from craigslist, and a power coating setup from Eastwood. I have powder coated a bunch of stuff on my 33. Remember to grease the joint well after. I think it came out good. Getting the part smooth and free of oils and such was crucial. My suspension parts were two part because the shiny second coat required a base coat. Tape or wipe off with your finger where you DON'T want powder and heat. Yes there are a number of steps, but worth it.

As these are delivered in bare metal, makes you wonder why the joint is already mounted. Is it diffficult to put this ball-joint in if it was delivered un assembled?

Easy to install with the right ball joint socket. The tricky part is going to be replacing these ball joints down the road since FFR welds the BJ housing to the control arm.

Option to improve!! As "we" need to buy several tools anyway... 100$ for a BJ tool is nothing on the scheme of the whole car....

Yup...true, I also have the BJ sockets from doing my 70 Challenger's front end a few summers ago. Doing the BJs on the 70 Challenger was quite the chore after being in car for 48 years ....

I painted any exposed metal with POR-15. It's tough as nails, and can be used for used, or new parts. Just don't get it on you.
Note-It is not meant for parts like quick jacks, sidepipes, or anything exposed to the sun.
