Getting close to installing the fuel system/tank and was wondering if anybody can help with plumbing specifics and needs. I did a bit of searching but couldn't seem to find anything on point.

For context, I'm looking to run a 427W with a 780 Quick Fuel carburetor (probably end up with around 500 HP).

Big questions are:

- What size gas line should I run?

- Is the FFR fuel pickup sufficient (with the obligatory drilling of the lines).

- Any suggestions for a fuel regulator?

- Any suggestions for a fuel filter?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

427W, 540hp, ProSystems (Holley) 780 double pumper

In a past life I ran 3/8 line to the pump and 5/16 return.
Aeromotive bypass regulator after the carb
Edelbrock Victor mechanical pump
Canton canister filter, short element, located near the tank

Never saw any fuel delivery issues.

Sorry, don't know anything about the FFR tank setup

With my 427W, Holley 750 carburetor, I have 3/8" stainless line from the tank. No regulator, no return line. Added the Breeze 3/8" in tank pickup, although I don't see it on their website now. I have the Summit SUM-G1507 canister fuel filter at the outlet of the tank, with an Edelbrock in line filter after the mechanical pump. Also upgraded to the Ford Fuel tank/Filler-tube o-ring gasket – Ford F4ZZ-9072-DA and Ford Fuel filler cap – Motorcraft FC-961, Ford XU5Z-9030-JA.

Thanks! It looks like 3/8" Stainless line will do the trick on the pressure side. I'll have to make a judgement call on the pickup unit. I'm planning on tracking the car so hopefully the smaller pickup tubing won't be too much of a pinch point with the larger lines downstream. The only other fuel pickup I've been able to find is on JEGS and provides a - 10AN on the suction line - a bit overboard to say the least.

Are there any particular advantages to running a bypass regulator?

Check out the Pro-M fuel pump hanger with its AN-6 feed & return fittings: http://www.promracing.com/fuel-supply/pro-m-racing-individual-fuel-parts/high-flow-fuel-pump-hanger-for-1986-1997-mustangs.html

If you're open to running an in-tank electric fuel pump that is...

You can run a EFI in tank pump like a Walbro 255 or 300 lph pump feeding 3/8” line to an A1000 carburetor regulator. Set it to 6-7 psi and run the return with 5/16” or 3/8”. If you chose a mechanical pump jim1855 suggestion is good, just note you’ll need a pick up that is meant for a mechanical pump. The EFI Pump is nice as vapor lock cannot happen. How ever both mechanical and electric options work great. The return regulator set up is nice also because it has the best control over fuel pressure. I’m using a billet fuel filter and I like it.

This is a fun part of the build. Lots of ways to approach the fuel set up. The key is to do it your way. Customize it to please you and meet your engine setup.

My setup for 408W, QF 650 Carb, about 400+ HP:

1) 6AN gas tank pickup from Breeze (sounds like Mark may no longer have this part).
2) Fragola PTFE 6 AN Coated Braided hose from Pickup to Fuel Filter. PTFE handles Ethanol in the gasoline better.
3) Holley Billet Fuel Filter
4) 3/8 SS Hard line to fuel pump
5) Holley External Electric Billet Fuel Pump
6) 3/8 SS Hardline from pump to engine bay regulator, run along passenger side main round frame tube.
7) Holley Billet Fuel Pressure Regulator, no return line since Carb set up.
8) Fragola PTFE 6 AN SS Braided Hose from regulator to Carb

You will see in the pics that I originally used rubber fuel line from the fuel tank pickup to filter but it got soft over time (presumably from ethanol in the gas), so I switched to PTFE 6 AN line and connections. Very pleased with that decision.
You will also see that I mocked up both my brake and fuel lines with standard hard line from any auto parts store and then used it as a template for fabricating the expensive SS line.

Wow, thanks. This is exactly what I am looking for.

Looks like I may have a big of searching to do to try to find a -6AN pickup (I'm doing a Forte Kit that comes with a mechanical fuel pump) but hopefully I can find something.
