Hi all, we started our coupe build last Labor Day, and just found a donor Gen 2 Coyote out of a 2016 Mustang. I’ve got the engine in my garage now, and have a few questions:
1) can I use the stock alternator that’s on it? I see in the instructions it says to purchase an alternator kit, but I can’t tell how different they are. Been trying to search forums for answer.
2) can I use the Ford performance engine control pack with a donor motor? I would think so, but want to be sure before I order it, since it said it’s made for a crate engine.
3) the Ford performance control pack instructions say you must have a return fuel line at the regulator in the engine bay. I’ve read elsewhere that guys have successfully used the corvette fuel pressure regulator with a Coyote and only run a single fuel line to the engine compartment. Any definitive view on this?
4) any other significant differences for the installation instructions between a crate engine and using a donor engine?
5) I can’t find 4 bolt holes on the engine to hook up my chains for the hoist. Does anyone have a photo showing the holes they used? I’ve found two or three but they aren’t spaced out enough on the block.
Thank you all for the help. Emerson

1. Should be the same.
2. The Ford Performance Gen2 control pack is made for a bone stock manual shift Mustang 5.0 Coyote. Should be OK if that's what you have.
3. You have to have a regulated return style fuel system. Whether you put the regulator in the engine compartment or back by the tank, resulting in a shorter return line, doesn't matter. Many have used the GM regulator/filter with the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Coyotes. Seems to work fine. It's fixed at 58 psi. Ford Performance calls for 55 psi. Doesn't seem to be the best choice for the Gen 3 where 65 psi is required.
4. No. The crate motor is right off the assembly line that feeds the same engine to the Mustang plant. (Well, technically not Gen 2 any more. They went out of production several years ago. The plant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada where they're made is only making Gen 3's now.)
5. There are threaded lift bracket bosses on the side of the LH head at the front. Then another pair on the rear RH side. You can see where they're attached in this pic. These are Coyote lift brackets from TD Motion.

I have a 2017 crate Coyote. Yes, the instructions say return line with regulator in engine bay. I've seen the regulator/pump combo mounted at the gas tank. Seems to work ok. Not sure about the alternator questions.

The engine lift points called out by Ford are as follows. DS - Mount to the front side. PS - Mount to the rear of the engine. NOTE - I unplugged a few connectors to keep from crushing them. Don't have a good pic of the PS rear mount, sorry.

Thank you both for the quick reply. This is really helpful! The photos of the hangers really helped as well. Thank you!!!
