coyote F150 - Make it like a Mustang?????

Hi everyone,

So, the crate motor I was supposed to pick up this past weekend (Gen 2 coyote) ended up being an F150 crate. I was bummed. Anyway, I have been reading that the ONLy differences are the Intake (which I wanted to change anyway), the exhaust manifolds (which don't we have to put on the coyote headers anyway???) and the CAMS.

Is that a difficult and expensive thing to do to make the f150 coyote like the mustang version???

After doing some research for you, the timing and firing order is different requiring a cam change. I would also swap the timing cover to a Mustang one. Nothing else really matters as far as actually installing and running it.

It also requires a different engine harness due to the firing order change. And you must either change the cam phasers or remark them for installation w the mustang cams.

FYI. Ford racing has gen 2 f150 on sale for a dirt cheap price. Use one of those if you head that route.

Glad you did that, I spent last night researching and I thought I found that a gen 2 f150 and mustang had the SAME firing order. I may just look for a mustang with low miles:)

Did I read somewhere that the F150 oil pump was a weak link and the front timing cover was different? I know that it can be done John George ran one in both his roadster and coupe. maybe one of his threads would show what he did.

FYI -

gen 1 F150 is identical except for the intake cams (and slightly lower compression) - but the same firing order so the same control pack etc. (timing cover, oil filter, alternator are different but don't matter other than must use remote oil filter.) I used one in my build (with the swapped mustang intake cams)

All that changes w the gen 2 and the different firing order. Keep that in mind when reading (pretty sure John George was gen 1)

F150 oil pump has sintered gears that have been known to fail under hard use. If you plan on tracking or racing the car upgrading the oil pump / gears would be a good choice.
