Nothing for sure, but there's a chance for a relocation to the Dallas area... in particularly Richardson, TX.

Anyone from around those parts? What's good, bad, etc....?

Chris,

I moved from Richardson about 15 years ago. I headed about 20 minutes farther north to escape the crazy growth. I live out near the old Southfork Ranch now. It has only grown more and more around here since then.

My wife had a job in the 'telecom corridor' which was in Richardson and was fueled by the Internet growth in the late 90's and early 2000's. Once the offices of large telecom companies like Nortel, MCI and Lucent that were surrounded by all of the smaller niche companies. Sooo many nice cars back then! Most of those have melted away and new companies like State Farm have filled in.

I consider Richardson to be the OG North of Dallas burb that attracted new businesses/industries and spurred growth in chunks. The Dallas light rail goes through Richardson and was handy for my downtown commute back when I lived there. It can get a little sketchy but is mostly fine.

Richardson has some good areas and some not so good areas. It has a pretty large China Town area and lots of smaller older shops. That's where I head for my Homebrew supplies but I sadly have not made that trip in a while.

Most of the new crazy North of Dallas growth is to the north in Frisco and Mckinney. The good part about Richardson is that it's about 20 minutes from most things in the area. You would have many choices if you did not want to live there. That said, the whole Dallas/Fort Worth area is growing like crazy. Places like Arlington or Fort Worth are still an hour away depending on traffic.

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions or if you want to grab a beer while you are here.
