View Full Version : Grease grooves in control arm bushings question

Hello,

At build school they told us about cutting grooves in the front lower arm bushings to help get the grease out on the bushing surface. I have seen posts on here where this has been done and I plan on doing it too.

My question is if this should also be done on the control arm bushings for a 3 link rear end?

Thanks!

Check the parts you have. I'll bet there are grooves already there. The ones I've received from Factory Five for the last couple builds were pre-grooved. Good recommendation from the past, but I suspect might be dated. The grooves definitely help the grease to go in better and confirm the joint is properly lubed.

Yes for the rear control arms if there aren't already grooved.

Hi,

There are grooves inside where the bushing is but the outer bushing surfaces where they rub against the frame tabs are smooth.

So they tell you in build school to groove the outer vertical bushing surfaces? Interesting. As long as the inner hole on the poly bushing is grooved, I've never had any issue with grease going in between the metal sleeve and the poly bushings and spilling out (quite liberally if you pump too much...) the outer vertical surfaces. Can't say that added grooves would hurt anything. Just not sure they're necessary.

told us the same thing at the hot rod session. I added them on my build, couldn't hurt :)
