View Full Version : Roadster body changes question

I know the 25th anniversary has some revisions to the body. Are these changes also present on the regular bodies now?
What I am interested in is the revised front fender. According to Factory Five literature the front fenders are slightly enlarged to give more tire clearance. Does that mean that the fenders are wider than before, and if so by how much approximately?
Why I want to know is because the FFR supplied 17x9 front wheels protrude slightly outside the fender. Not only does this look silly imo, but it will also not be approved by our version of the DMV for legal use. I can either try and find a 17x8 wheel with a little more ET ( FFR can't help me there), or widen the fenders. It would be nice if I could find someone with the revised body to make a mold, if the fender is in fact wider.

I can't help you with your specific question, measurements, etc. But I can confirm the changes made to the molds for the 25th Anniversary were incorporated into all Roadster bodies produced since.

As edwardb said all bodies now incorporate the changes. The revision to the front wheel opening is in the length at the lower portion, not width. It doesn’t amount to much. I measured when I had both side by side here in the shop and it was around 1/2”. Mentioning that the tire protrudes outside of the body when mounted on FFR rims begs the question of what spindles you are using—-if they are 1996 or later Mustang versions they set the wheel farther outward. If you’re using Fox body, 1994-1995 Mustang or the FFR spindles the question becomes what is your camber? Any of those with .5 degree or more negative camber will keep a 245, 255 or even 275 tire under the body when combined with the FFR 9” rim.

Ok, thanks. Won't do me any good making a mold from a newer body then. The rules specify that nothing can protrude beyond the fender lip from 30 degrees ahead of to 50 degrees behind vertical. I have the FFR spindles and the camber is at.5 negative. The track of the tire is inside, but the rim is too far out. It has been an issue for several builders over here.

I have a MK4 built in 2018 still in gelcoat I also have a 25th anniversary I measured up 200 mm from the front hood line and then measured from the hood seem over to the edge of the fender both were the exact same measurement I do not believe they made them wider. I believe the adjustment was made down at the front edge if I remember from the video from what Dave said.

I had to widen the front guards, specifically the right hand one in order for the rim to sit slightly inside (2011) Mk4. Otherwise I would never had a hope of getting it through. My body fella did a magnificent job, you would never know he had been there.
