Hi all! I'm still a couple years away from ordering my mk4 roadster. In the next week or so I'll be getting a 351 Windsor out of a 95 or 96 4wd F-150. My plan is basically a stock rebuild. I tried searching this forum for oil pan recommendations, couldn't find anything specific. will the truck pan work (I'm guessing not) , any recommendations for an aftermarket pan or a ford part# / year model that works?
any advice or recommendations appreciated!

Raddksn,
I know very little about Fords, but do know that you Don't want to go cheap when picking your pan.
My only recommendation is to make sure it Does Not fall below the frame rails and that it is very good at controlling oil slosh...These cars accelerate and brake harder than just about anything out there so keeping the sump covered is of paramount importance when it comes to a wet sump street motor...As an example, I'm running a double baffled "Stock Appearing" pan and because my pump and sump are in the rear of my pan, both are well covered under hard acceleration and the baffles cover the oil control chors under harder than average braking.
I'd reach out to one of the Auto Crossing Gurus like Jeff Kleiner or Road Racing Fellows like Henry Renard (65 Cobra Dude) or Gordon Levy before you decide on what pan to pick...Your engine and wallet will thank you in the end.
Good Luck!

I'd recommend contacting Gordon Levy, he sells Champ pans that will be a good match for your 351w. Anything over 7.5" will more than likely hang below the frame. I have a Canton 7 3/4"ish with a Dart block and it is below the frame. I have a Champ from Gordon sitting in my garage that will be replacing it.
Gordon is great to work with, ordered many parts from him for my engine.

Sounds good thanks! I have lots of time, I don't even have the engine yet! just doing some research!
Champ pan, definitely. Check out their site, it's excellent for information. I had to switch from a stock Ford pan to a Champ Pan to clear the frame rails. Mine is a 302, and I don't remember right now if it was 7-1/2, or 7", but it did the trick. Way better construction.
Here's hoping that you're able to reach your dream sooner, rather than later like me.

X3 on calling Gordon Levy. He'll hook you up with the right pan (with baffles & crank scraper), the right pickup, & the right gasket.

EDIT: Change the pan before you put the engine in the car. That will give you WAY more room than working on your back. This thread https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?31877-John%92s-Excellent-Oil-Pan-Adventure is my experience putting Gordon's (Champ) pan on my 302.
