Before I drill a hole in my carpet for possibly no good reason, had anybody used nutserts over carpet and was it fine?

I have cool mat underneath so it's fairly thin?

They are really made more for sheet metal or thinner walled options. Through carpet, coolmat, and the panel might be a little much. There is only so much of the nutsert/rivnut that can collapse. If you look up the specs they have a "grip range" and some are longer than other. Like this:

Also I suggest you "burn" a hole first before you drill. I use a hallow punch heated up with a torch (held in vice grips) to cut through the carpet first. You can also do it with a soldering iron but its a little less clean.
