Has anyone calculated pretty accurately the total surface area of the body including doors, hood and trunk? Tried a search, no luck.
I can't imagine the calculus it would take to come up with an "accurate" number given there isn't a flat plane surface anywhere on the car. What are you trying to accomplish? Turning it into simple rectangular sections (sides, top, front, back) with approximate measurements I come up with ~150-160 square feet.

We used to put it on a surface table, take hundreds of touches with a CMM and build a point cloud. The software would smooth out the surfaces and curves, building a reasonably accurate solid, which had things like wetted surface area etc. I think now they use laser scanners to get much denser and accurate data.
