View Full Version : Passenger roll bar alignment problems
I am having problems getting my passenger side roll bar to properly align with the upper hoop. It was not even close to being aligned when I first attempted to install, heavily binding up when trying to attach straight bar to upper hoop. I have lightly grinded some of the inside of the straight bar to get it to this point. I still have about 1/16" gap that will not go away. FFR wants me to sand down the lower mounts which I do not think will do much at this point and I really do not want to remove more metal on a "roll bar" for safety reasons. Have requested a new roll bar from FFR, I think the bar was welded incorrectly causing the angle of the straight bar to be off alignment to the lower mount. The drivers side aligned perfectly with no problems.
Has anyone had this issue before? Solutions? After a couple hours of trying different ideas I am throwing in the towel.

In my limited experience, I found that this binding occurs when the hoop is sitting too low. try wiggling the hoop up a bit and then bring the rear bar up to meet it.

You can grind the end of the bar at a slight angle.

Are you referring to the inside of the bar? I have already removed material inside the straight tube on both ends to get it to this point. I feel like I am at the point of just feeling better if I had a new roll bar that was cut at the proper angles. The drivers side was perfect, guess I had some bad luck on the passenger side. Hopefully FFR will come through and send me a new roll bar. They can have this one back.

Dealt with this on a current customer car. It was the drivers side bar but same issue. Luckily I have a few roll bars laying around at any given time so I tried another I had upstairs. Turns out the inside side of the hoop was 1/4" longer than the outside side. Put it in the bandsaw, cut off 1/4" and it fits perfect. I think the inside side of your bar is a bit longer from the picture you posted. Can't bend or fabricate metal in a computer, these kind of things happen.

Fman,
had the same issue. The angled tube from aft of two upright tubes on pass side was 3/8" off. The shop I took it to just put a long steel tube on weldment and manually levered it into position. Didn't even need to heat it up. Hope it helps. AD

This is what I did. If you’re lucky it won’t need to be re-chromed.
Thank you for the replies will check on those items mentioned. Really hopeful FFR will just swap a roll bar with me, I do not feel like grinding down metal on a roll bar is a great idea. Would like to keep my wife around god forbid if we ever rolled over.

Well if removing an 1/8" of metal off the lip of the bar changes it's usefulness, then it isn't going to help as is.
