My goal is to attend the build school for the MK4 sometime early this year. When I click on the website, and then add class, it shows the class description and then it says, "no class found." When is registration? or is it unavailable because of Covid?

I have tried calling the number posted and didn't get an answer. I have emailed the listed email twice last week and haven't received a reply.

You may be right that classes have been suspended until the college gets a clear path forward. If you would like, we can arrange for you to come by our shop. We are in Upland, so not too far at all from you. Reach out with a private massage and we will see what we can work out.

COVID restrictions in Michigan have not allowed in-person classes for colleges/universities. Literally just today (January 19, 2021) those restrictions have expired, and students are going back on campus. Most still with some mix of on-line and in-person. But relaxed from before. With that, I would expect Mott to re-open the build school at some point. Hopefully soon.

The build school is working hard to follow state COVID guidelines, and are working on some other projects as well during the class downtime. If you want, forward your message to the build school to me at davel@factoryfive.com, and I can forward it onto our contact over there.

As Mad dog stated due to the Covid we are still not able to do classes.
We are looking at starting up in the month of February but have not gotten the final approval yet. We are stacking them up schedule wise as soon
as we get back, planning on several months with 2 classes in most if we can.
We are doing everything we can to get things rolling faster but our State Governor is an id 10 t.
Unfortunately we do not have anyone in the office as of right now either.
Please bear with us it shouldn't be too much longer.
Hoping to see you soon.

Good and important discussion. Hope the build school opens soon. And maybe we can leave the politics out of it. :(

Just a heads up guys we are trying to have the first one at the end of the month.
No confirmations yet but we had to do a ton of hoop jumping in the last few days.
Keep your eyes open for something very soon.

I wont be able to make it till April, and I'm bummed I'm gonna miss the surprise. What will be the offered dates in April?

Todd Baumann

We tentatively had the roadster class in April scheduled on the 16th, but we still have not finished with the new schedule as of yet.
Plus we have more news coming for all very soon.
We will make announcements as everything is finalized.
Sorry you can't make this class you would of enjoyed the surprise.
Hope to see you soon though.

Well J the surprise did not happen as we had hoped, but no problem.
We were hoping to have the man himself show up this time but seems that maybe we got some
bad info and maybe Dave will be out again soon to join us at another time.

As for the other news the build school is moving. During this class we had to disrupt things a little bit
and do some mad thrashing and serious teardowns and packing of parts and equipment.
We will be heading back to main campus in Flint. It seems the satellite campus has been sold and
this was our last class in the Howell facility. It was a great 15 years here.
We had a good spot there but we are going to be starting another new chapter for the Build School back
where it all started before. We will hopefully see you all soon at our new spot.
As soon as we can confirm how quickly we can get set up again in Flint we will finalize
the schedule and get it out to you guys.
Here is to seeing you all very soon.

Todd, thanks for your updates
with the move of the build school to the Flint campus, are you still planning to have the build school April 16 weekend?

CK I am going to be honest I really do not see it.
Unfortunately we had to move out right away, but they still have to finish paint,
and a number of other things before we can get rolling again not to mention unpack and the overall foot
print is smaller.
I will keep you informed as to when but I think it will be closer to May unfortunately.

Hey Todd. Thanks for a great class. I had a blast and learned a lot. You and Jim were terrific instructors. Patient, knowledgeable and attentive to detail. Shame we did not get the big surprise. :-(

Good news guys, we are finalizing the schedule for the rest of the year right now.
Hopefully they will be posting up everything in the next week.
It looks like the 4/16 class will be able to be ran after all for CK if wanting to still attend.
Give us a few more days and we should have it done soon.

Mr. Hinz sir, thanks for the kudos, we had a great class and we love to do it as much as you guys do.

Just saw the new schedule has been posted!!! I'm very excited. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. On the website, there were no April 16th classes offered. The next one posted was April 30th. Is this correct?

It would be nice if the surprise is that they added the Daytona Coupe as another build project in the class. I would like to take the class myself with my father. We could either fly up or drive from Illinois. Just a suggestion if they could make that happen Todd for folks interested in the Coupe Build Project. Have a great evening.

J you are right the 4/30 class is going to be the first one. Lots of things to prep for before we all get in.

Pointman we would love too do the Coupe but it would be a very long class and we only have three days.
We all have built Coupes and we can easily discuss the differences, but the suspension and wiring are the same for the most part.
There is a fair amount of aluminum that is specific along with the frame but the concept is the same.
Come to the Roadster class and we can get you through the Coupe build easily.

Todd, thanks for all the info. Just registered for the 4/30 class! Where is the location of the class and which accommodations does the school recommend?

My registration form says the location of the class is: "Flint, Regional Technology Center"

You are right on the place description, considered West portion of campus but to me its more east.
Call the school, they typically in the past have had a package with the local hotels
to save you a couple of bucks but not sure if anything has been set up yet. The girls can help you there though.
Otherwise we will see you in April, I believe Scott and I are doing that class.

Hi Chris,
The 4/30 class is a roadster class.
Are you sure you don't want to do the Hot Rod for something that is a just a little bit closer of a build?
Either way we will get you thru it so don't worry.
Todd

PS trying to get you guys some info on hotels and such so maybe you can get somekind of a discount like we had in Howell.
Soon as I get a contact for you I will let you know.

Calling this number: (517) 552-2163, I was transferred to Amber. She confirmed the class is in Flint and will find out in the next couple weeks if there will be any Hotels that will provide discounted rates for Build School attendees. She also said not to get my hopes up

Well guys the first class back at main campus came off without too many issues.
Unfortunately we had to improvise slightly.
Next class is in May and unfortunately the girls have not been able to secure any specials with the local hotels.
But there are a couple of newer ones near by.
The school is right off of the highway so even if you stay within 10-15 miles you can get there fairly quickly.
Not being a Flint resident I can't really tell you what is the best hotel in town either.
Miller Rd. near the airport is where most of the restaurants are for food so something near there probably would be best.

Hopefully some of the guys like Jrohrig and Chris can give you more ideas from their experiences this past weekend.
Come on down and see us. You'll have a great time. Promise.

Yeah, just finished the class this last weekend and it was great! I learned a ton and highly recommend it to everyone interested in building these cars.

In regards to hotels, I stayed in a dumpy place off Miller Rd (Quality Inn) for dirt cheap but I don't recommend doing that. It was kinda in a bad area and you get what you pay for. It was about a 12 minute drive, which was really easy to do. I don't think you need to stay in a place right next to the college. Just find something around the $120 a night range with 4 stars and you'll be glad you did.

Id be happy to answer any questions anyone has about my experience and what the new set up is like for the build school
