View Full Version : How to prep for eventual sway bars (forte, vpm, flyin...)?

Hi all, hoping to pull the trigger on the ffr kit this week, trying to wrap up loose ends.

Planning on IRS. The Cobra (man I like how that sounds...) will be driven 25 minutes or so to work on nice days plus planning on investing time at autoX both to have fun and learn how to control the beast so that I don't find myself wrapped around a light pole.

Plan for now is to build and learn the car as is and start tweaking the suspension once I've got a feel for things.

Question is: what do I need to do now to plan for eventual sway bars? I've read about baskets to install for the rear. It's that just for the ffr bars? What about the front? Any prep to do there?

Thanks again,

Juan

For the Factory Five provided sway bars: Front -- nothing required for future installation. The frame mounts are standard on all kits. The LCA attachment is made to the same bolts that hold the coilovers. Rear -- does require the added frame mount bracket as you mentioned. Visible in the picture below. You could add it after the fact. But ideally at the time of the build since two of the suspension bolts (LCA and toe arm) hold it in place. The other end goes to the same bolts that hold the coilovers. Same as the front. There are aftermarket front sway bars available, but I'm not familiar with them. None for the IRS rear that I'm aware of.

No prep needed for Forte front and VPN rear. I installed both about three years after the build was complete.

Agree on the rear for a 3-link like yours. 3rd party choices are available. Not so sure about the 2015+ IRS which the OP is asking about.

Thanks for the catch. I should have read the request a little more carefully.

That's the smartest sub 10 post that I have seen in a long time.

VPM front swaybar does not require preparation either. The website pictures are not up to date. For Mk4, it now has brackets that bolt to front tow hook.

VPM front, pre-2015 MK4 vintage. As far as I'm aware this has not changed - someone with more recent vintage would need to confirm.
