A friend's 16-year-old son just introduced her low-mileage 32v 4.6L cobra convertible to a tree. Before the wreck, the car had been in the family for a number of years and was used only as a weekend toy. I think that it is a 1998, but it could be a 1997.

The car still runs but it likely beyond repair. So long as the drivetrain can be confirmed to be undamaged, would this be a good donor car for a Mk4 roadster build? What "special considerations" should be given over a standard Fox 5.0 donor car?

I like the idea of running a high-revving aluminum modular motor up front, but I'll probably pass on this particular project if it will be a ton more work than a "standard" build.

Thanks.

Lot of owners using & enjoying the 4.6 Modular motors, very little extra work;
Stock Oil Pan needs changing, as it's too low.
Couple other items need to be swapped out & a couple hundred bucks worth of items from FFR.
Go for it & enjoy the build.

Is there a side clearance issue with the wider DOHC 4V heads (as opposed to going with the standard 4.6L SOHC 2V heads)?

You will need the 4.6 donor installation kit. 14766 1996-2004 Donor package. Includes oil pan, A/C eliminator kit, hydro-boost install kit, modified footbox aluminum and brake line adapters. $399

If you are using the power steering rack from the donor you will also need 14653 1994-2004 Mustang steering rack $140. That has different inner and outer tie rods and the correct shteering rack adapter for the steering shaft.

That would be a fantastic donor.

When you order the kit you'll specify a 4.6L build and they'll update order with modified driver-side footbox panels, steering shaft, and various other parts...
