I've seen comments about the under lit headlights on the Mark I Roadster (avoiding using that C word! :) ) and the later models. I was able to improve the stock headlights on my car a little by adding more grounds. But I finally took a weekend off and installed HID Headlights! I installed all with, sealed power supplies, relays, etc. to make them reliable. I also left in place the three prong plugs in case I'm out driving, blow a bulb and need a quick replacement. By plugging into one of the existing three prong plugs you pickup from the light switch, high and low beams, while still leaving in place all the dash to headlight wiring just in case. In this way the headlight switch is just a very low amp switch to control the relay that turns on the HID Headlights!
I now have BRIGHT white light waaaaaaaaaay down the road!

I've been thinking about HID's for my build. What color temp. did you go with? Did you use a kit?

Ya just noticed I had not updated the miles recently - will get it updated shortly.
The lights I have now are 8000K Bi-xenon.
I have the wiring kit I tracked down at an online company.

You have to plan "something" when you get to 500,000

I (the resident lighting nazi) hope you didn't put a rebased HID retro kit in the stock halogen housings did you?

Ralph,
Do you have more detail on the wiring kit you used?
Thanks, Dennis

here is what I used:
I used a wiring harness by KTAutoRacing, with their ballast & bulbs. I'm using the 8000K BI-XENON bulbs.
I did not like their headlight housing as they were like many others I've seem that hard plastic stuff where the bulb really does not seem to be held in well.
Get some glass ones from someone like Forte's! You will be much happier!
The nice part about this wiring kit is they use the wiring already in place - plug into the three prong headlight socket so if you have to, you only unplug and put in place stock bulbs.
You run one wire to power and your done.
Also I will say one of my ballast's quit working after 8 months (they sat on the shelf for a while till I had time to install them). They have a one year parts... so I sent them an email. They sent me an RMA and same day shipped out a replacement ballast before I even got the bad one packaged up to ship to them!!!
Sorry for the wait... I had term papers due... and other stuff going on... and miles to drive ... yada... yada... yada... :D

Hey!
Who stole my Avator? LOL (I thought I posted on this topic yesterday, but I didn't remember reading it before!)
How blue are the lights and are they significantly better? (would you recommend this as a retrofit, given the cost and time?)

I bought a couple of headlight housings from ebay.. They were plastic with "focused lenses" built into them. Look pretty slick got a set with black backgrounds.. Not to sure how much I trust them not to set my car on fire randomly though! Anyone have a good solution for housings?
