If I end up doing powder coating on the aluminum body panels...are any of them too big to fit into a regular sized oven? Engine bay pieces in particular. (not the oven I bake my chocolate chip cookies in...one specifically designated)
(working up my budget if I do powder coating myself vs outsourcing)

Not true I did almost all in a oven except the fire wall and the front footbox on the drivers side. Some had to go in at an angle but I got them to work. I would suggest get a professional powder that your local powder coating shop does, then you can bring that powder in for them to use. Or them may have that color in stock. I brought in a couple pounds of powder into them, but they where using that same manufacture of powder that I used. You could also make a box to extend the oven with the door open to get a longer piece in. If I was more patient I would have done that. Check out my build pics I posted some of the process I did.

Sorry thought I posted some in my build, here are a couple of my set up. This is the homemade booth I made from my crate engine box.

Paul has been an inspiration for powder coating and he is way better than I. I coating all necessary parts (most only on one side) and used his standard kitchen oven (craigslist will get you a deal). As he said the only part that I could not do was the firewall. Initially I cut in in half so I could use the oven and then riveted in place but it looked like crap. Drilled the rivets and put a new skin on. A friend has a machine shop and he had some left over stainless sheeting. Cut it to fit and used PL 5200 to adhere to the old firewall and I think came out pretty good. The stainless doesn't need finishing and I am good to go.

Thanks, the stainless turned out looking good.

I used an old electric stove, removed the oven door and made a metal box on rollers that would butt up to it. Moved the top burner element to the bottom of the box and used the oven door as the lid. I've been using this for about 15 years. It doubles the oven size and gives good access. But I still don't think many of the panels would fit in it.

This is an interesting and timely thread. I just ordered a gun and some start-up supplies, but don't know what I'm going to do for an oven yet, and am thinking of building my own. I found this one on a web search and it looks like a good guide to start with and most materials can be purchased from the local Home Depot or Lowes.
