Hi all,
I'm looking into getting a diff, brakes, hubs, etc for my IRS setup. I have ordered the #60737 option but the rest (what ever that may be) I have opted to find locally, more likely from a breaker and refurbish it myself.

I have found a 5.0 manual diff for £450, so happy days, but I need to know what other parts are needed.

So far I guess its:

Discs
Pads
Hubs
Calipers
Half shafts

any other parts, anything needed to connect these to the IRS? I don't want to get half way through and wonder what's missing.

Also, are all the driveshafts and hubs, etc, the same or do they need to come from a V8, as we have a lot of the 6cy versions over here in the UK and I don't want to order the wrong parts
thanks
Phil

The wreckers as we call them here often sell the complete IRS, they just take the sub frame off the 2015 and newer Mustang. Not 100% sure but I think you need a GT V8 car, we don't get a V6 here only Turbo 4 or V8. Also note the diff has different bolt patterns depending on the transmission, auto vs manual so there are 2 types of adaptor flanges for the drive shaft.
All you need are the hubs, diff and you can use the brakes. The half shafts and all the other parts are FFR specific and come with the kit.

The option combinations may be different on your side. But in the U.S. a 5.0 manual diff is going to be an iron case diff and be fine. Even an aluminum case is OK. Of bigger importance is the ratio. Here the 5.0's will be 3.31, 3.55 or 3.73. You should confirm what you have and if it fits your build plan. The ratio is changeable if it comes to that. Axle/hubs are the same for all. As already stated, the CV axles (half shafts...) come with the 60737 IRS option you cite. Listed on the order form. Sorry I can't help with the Mustang brakes. Both of my IRS builds I went with the Wilwood option. Super nice and recommended. But expensive.

I did very similar to what you did by sourcing the IRS diff from a junkyard. I ordered Ford Part # M-5970-M (https://www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/suspension-knuckles?fr=part-type&SortBy=BestKeywordMatch&SortOrder=Ascending&keyword=M-5970-M)from summit racing which is the knuckle and hub kit you'll need. Looks like Summit is currently out of stock on hub/knuckle kit (I think I got the last one they had in stock in December). You don't have to get these new, but I would recommend at least buying new hubs and as Paul stated those are the same on all mustangs from 2015 to current.

I went with the wildwood big brake option, but it looks like Ford Part # M-2300-MR could also be something that fits the bill for you also available from Summit (although I have no idea what their international shipping looks like). I have found the Ford Performance Part Catalog to be a treasure trove of information and some of their parts are quite reasonably priced https://performanceparts.ford.com/download/PDFS/2020FPPcatalog.pdf

Hi,
thanks for the replies, from what I have read the 5.0l manual should be a 3.55, but who knows :) I guess I need to take a chance and see what it turns out to be, certainly looks like it's made from cast steel.

I was told by FFR that I would need the center section (which I guess is the diff?) , spindles which I thought were the half shafts, so no idea what these are now, unless they refer to the knuckle, hubs and brakes.

Any idea what a spindle would refer to, knuckle maybe?

thanks again for your help,
Phil

Center section = diff. Same thing.

Knuckles = spindles. Same thing. https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-5970-M

Half shafts = CV axles. Same thing. Are included with the IRS option. You don't need to buy them separetly.

Just to confirm, to install IRS you need:

- Factory Five IRS option which includes the upper and lower control arms, toe arms, coilovers, CV axles, hardware, and frame structure to mount everything.

- Center section and knuckles/hubs.

- Your brakes of choice.

If you don't have them, maybe the Factory Five IRS instructions would help clarify everything: https://www.factoryfive.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/IRS-2015-REV-D.pdf

Hope that helps!

Excellent, thanks for clearing that up, I nearly bought the half shafts today, saved me a fair bit of money :)

Still working my way through the manual, just trying to get some parts ready for when the kit arrives :)

cheers
