I've decided with continued track use for safety's sake to go with a fuel cell.

I'm wondering what the easiest way to go is and I'm looking for advice.

I see this for the Challenge Car:

Also a few ways to go about getting a universal cell (top fill or angled remote fill) for example:

I have the ability to fab/weld whatever cage/supports are needed.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave, I have a 22 gallon Fuel Safe Enduro cell in my Gen II. I am not a long-time consumer of these things, so take this for what it's worth:

1. If you want to waste a week making call after call after call and constantly get told that the person who can answer your questions isn't there, or will call you back, etc., and then never even bother to give you a price quote, there is a manufacturer in California that will do that for you. If you want to get a price quote that makes you say, "pardon me, sir, but I said I only need 1 fuel cell, not 2," there is a manufacturer in New Jersey will do that for you. If you want to be treated like you are in charge of procurement for the Department of Defense and are calling about a 10-year, cost-plus contract to replace all fuel cells in all fixed and rotary wing aircraft owned by the U.S. military, call Fuel Safe and ask for Mr. Ben Rogers.

2. I used a Fuel Safe 122A-ASB, 34" x 18" x 9.5", with a "shoebox" lid (no flange at the top). It is a VERY tight fit and if I had to do it again, I'd try to find one an inch or two less than 18" long (front to back). Also, since you will almost certainly be fabbing the mounts, wait until you have the cell in hand before fabbing them. I had to redo my mounts after I got the cell because, well, 1/4" really does matter.

3. I used an angled fill plate (ML6X10RF-225) and had to make a tunnel, so to speak, through the trunk area. It wasn't too hard but the Challenge Car tank may - or may not - be easier to install. Even with the tunnel making it a pretty straight shot from the body to the fill plate, I still had a hell of a time getting the thick hose I used to connect to the cap assembly, due to the angles and near-total lack of flexibility in the hose (it wanted to collapse/fold with any real bend). I am sure there is a better solution but I don't know what it is.

4. I'd be happy to email you my spec sheet for reference. jcm250b at juno dot com.

Hi Jacob,

I had come across your comments and who to call from a search finding an older thread- Fuel Safe it will be.
Your pictures make my decision a lot easier.

I think that for the sake of simplicity I'll go for a top-fill with a cap and create a panel in my trunk floor for access. I'm not a real fan of the side-fill option, flapper valve or not- plus a replacement bladders cost a bit more.
I'll start with that and perhaps go to a remote/angle fill at some point.

I don't need more than 15/18 gallons (I know that the safety foam will consume some of that), so I'll go a bit undersized and hopefully this will be easier.

I'll report back as I progress.

Thanks,
Dave
