How do you sell or transfer a partially completed vehicle. If it runs, but is not yet registered/titled. Do you just assign the MSO to the buyer?
Thanks, Ralph

Ralph,

Did you consider getting one of the professional builders to finish it if your project has stalled out?
Nothing wrong with bringing in some help if you don't have the time or possibly the skills to complete the truck.
As for me, the bodywork nearly stopped me dead in my tracks along with more than a few family and personal issues.

No decisions, just age (78), and health catching up with me.

The Factory Five Certificate of Origin can only be signed by a registered dealer. Note the fine print on the document. You and the buyer should execute a bill of sale and ideally have it notarized. Most states will be OK. However some won't. Whoever buys it should check with their local authorities.

The bsck of my MSO was signed by seller, DMV in NY said that was fine, get bill of sale and check with your local dmv

Will check with FFR why they indicate only dealer signature spaces on rear of MSO. Every normal title I have ever seen has spaces for owner/individual signature, and one for dealers.
Interesting, since a dealer never owned, or is in chain of title.
Will also check with local DMV.
Thanks, Ralph

The signature isn't an FFR thing. It's right on the form as part of the standard format. Normal practice is it's not a consumer document, so don't think of it being just like a title. Car dealers work with them all the time obviously. But it's behind the scenes and the consumer (buyer) is never involved. As someone who's been through this a couple times, some follow-up comments to my previous post. Factory Five will not issue a new certificate. That's always been my understanding, but confirmed again just recently with a local buddy. So treat the document with respect and don't sign or alter it any way. That's my advice. It's the only one you'll be able to get, and without it you'll have a really tough time selling. Don't take a chance on it being considered altered or defaced.

Partially built kits are re-sold all the time and the high percentage of the time the certificate along with a properly executed bill of sale is fine. Just be open about it with any perspective buyers (shouldn't be a surprise to them) and they should check with their local authorities. Michigan, where I'm located, is one of the states that isn't a fan of a certificate that's been sold. Not insurmountable, but I was required to get a surety bond in order to complete a title. I've heard from a couple of other states with similar concerns. But most won't. Don't panic or do anything. Just be aware of the possibility and work with the buyer as required.

Thanks edwardb, you are probably more knowledgeable than anyone on this subject. I have enjoyed your builds over the years, and am following your current one.
Bob Cowan says it is a pain in Colorado, so may aim out of state where things are easier.
