Anybody have info on how far the side pipes should be from the body? I'm using a non-standard engine and want to make a set of J pipes but I need to know how far the side pipes need to be from the body horizontally. The mounting brackets should determine fore and aft position, rotation and height. Any help would be appreciated.

My pipes are at or around 1.25" away from the car's body with the muffler section sitting at or about 1.0" so away from it.
Mufflers are about .25" to .50" above the bottom of the 4.0" round tube frame rails.

I may put a wedge on the passenger side of the car to scoot that pipe up to match the driver's side because I'm O.C.D. about symmetry.
Hope this helps fellow "Non-Standard" engine pal.

Thanks, I thought you might answer. Non-standard is 5.3 LS with 4L60e.

If you moved your LS engine forward 5-6" as I did with my SBC, then you may be able to use these headers:

161-33-LS1
I used the set designed for the standard SBC and simply aligned the engine so the pipes came straight out the sides where the side pipes exit the body.
Good Luck & Happy Wrenching!
